What kind of flea protection do

Zeek on Grooming - Sun, June 17 2007

Mom's been using Nature's Way on me. It's basically a mixture of oils (lemon, clove, peppermint, thyme) that repell bugs. She puts it on once a month. For the first few days I'm like an aromatherapy session walking around. She's turning into a hippie with all the Bach flower essenses (which I have to admit, do help me) and natural pet food and all. She was freaking out Saturday night because she saw ONE bug on me. She wasn't even sure it was a flea or some other little bug (about the size of a flaxseed, whatever the heck THOSE are). She hasn't seen any before or since, but now she's all in a panic and has nightmares about fleabombing the house. I don't want her to bomb the house I like it here!

Hi Zeek. We don't ever use anything on us. Mom's all freaked out about putting too much in or on us. We take garlic and yeast pills and have as long as I've been around. None of us have ever had any problems with fleas! You're mom is right though. It's easier to prevent than treat.

mom doesn't use anything on us, either, except when she takes me to training seminars. (we go to very wooded areas, with high tick population. YUCK!!)when she does put anything on me, it's frontline plus. there's a kind of carpet powder you can put down...i'll have to find the link and post it for you. it's great on keeping the buggers out of you home, and safe. :)

Both of my dogs are on monthly Sentinel pills for heart worm and fleas. I have not had any problems other than the fact it is expensive but it's worth not having to deal with fleas. However, it seems like you are more into natural/organic alternatives so this may not be your cup of tea.

My mom uses Frontline Plus on both of us. We're a grease-ball for about a day until it all gets absorbed into our skin (or on the blankets, whatever...) Freckles runs away whenever she knows it's time for Frontline. What a scaredy-cat!

I am a holistic feeder. I watch everything that goes in or on my dogs, but I do make the compromise about the monthly flea meds. I use Frontline Plus. Just one flea can cause huge problems for a dog. Just one! I have not had any problems and the product works beyond belief! I also run a doggie daycare and we require frontline or advantage on all dogs.

I use Advantage. We tried the Frontline for several months and had more fleas using it than without! But that is just what works for me you have to find what is good for you, and I say stick with that! Anyways, I do agree with Pebbles. Mommy doesn't like to put any "chemicals" on me and my brother if she doesn't have too. Unfortunately we live where there are lots of fleas because there are alot of dogs in the area with lots of fleas and they are in the yard. Even if we treat it, they come back. The Advantage seems to take care of them on me and we haven't had any problems with them in the house. Knock on wood!

I use Neem Oil. My owner says the liver and kidney's cant handle topicals, so once a week I get sprayed with Neem Oil and Water....and there are no flea's on me!
