My mom and Horror Hounds

Batman on Activities - Fri, August 29 2008

My Mom just got back from something called Horror Hound. I thought she went to get a scary dog and I was worried. For Dog's sake we still have Lexie after all.

But, it was scary people not dogs. She is all excited about someone named Sammy Terry. She says unless you are old like her and grew up in Indiana, you probably don't know who he is. But, he scared the heck out of Mom when she was little. He walked right by her tonight and said "Good EEEEVening." Mom is so excited. I think she is weird.

She spent money that could have gone for more dog biscuits just getting a poster and Sammy Terry's autograph. I guess I should just be grateful she didn't bring home another dog.

Wow, Batman! Sammy Terry is VERY famous among those of us of a certain age. He scared the Bewhatzis out of me when I was younger. I saw him out of makeup once at his family's music store at 46th and Shadeland. Really nice guy. Glad your mom didn't bring Cujo home or something.

***having flashbacks***

My sisters used to force me to watch late night TV and laughed at me until I cried out of embarrassment, torture, and fear. I hated that spider, too.

I worked at channel 4 for about 3 years and got to meet Sammy Terry, and he is such a nice guy. Friday nights as a teenager were the best 'cause I got to watch him and the old, old scary movies.....ah, the good ole days.

and here Mom thought you were talking about Roo with the Horror Hounds. Mom's not originally from Indy so this Sammy Terry is an odd character to her every Halloween.

Horror Hounds is the entire weekend. Today and Sunday. However, guest appearances can be iffy. It is at the Marriott East. You could go to the door and ask (as it is $20 to get in). There are other horror people there. You can see who is coming at www.horrorhounds.com

Don't forget about Janie and Cowboy Bob. They had shows too. I think Janie is married to Sammy Terry. Am I right?

That's too cool, I wanted to go but shouldn't spend the $$$. Many moons ago on Halloween night when I was maybe 5. My aunt was babysitting me and let me stay up late to watch Children of the Corn on The Sammy Terry show. I had nightmares for weeks and still don't like driving thru corn fields alone at night :)

He introduced late night horror movies for local television stations. He would rise up out of a coffin and say, Gooood EEEVning and Welcome to Nightmare Theater. Then he would laugh.

One of my friends was absolutely terrified of his laugh. So, one night at a slumber party, we taped his laugh and as soon as the lights were out and everyone had stopped talking I hit the Play button. Man, did my friend scream.

That's the perfect sleep-over prank!
