Clicker Training the Human Male

Marci on Training - Fri, August 29 2008

I just had to share this. Yes, men can be trained!!!! Its no longer a myth. They just take a LOT longer than a dog. (No offense intended to any you men with a clue out there.)

John has been over the top poo-pooing clicker training and 100% positive reinforcement. We've been fighting tooth and nail over this since I brought Charlie home (over a year now).

I came home from Charlie's class this Tuesday, and to my amazement, John is in the kitchen with all of my training treats and has Sheila and Cwy doing tricks - all 100% reinforcement. Not only that, but he's snapping his fingers instead of using a clicker (the clicker is stupid, you know)!

He's even teaching Sheila (unknowingly) a replacement cue to "bang". He's calling it Gary Cooper. How CUTE is that?!!!

Anyway, just thought some of you ladies would like to hear that male humans can be trained. You just have to be really patient and consistent with them.

Hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday weekend!

It is true. I will have to back up Marci on this one. We can be trained. That is for sure. My fiance' has already trained me to put the toilet seat down. I'm sure there is plenty more things for me to learn. I am so excited. Have a happy holiday weekend everyone. Your downtowntrainer--PRESTON

I still don't believe it. Mine seems to be totally untrainable. I would rather train a pack of wild wolves than him. He just doesn't get it! Luckily he's a good guy and so easy going-just not trainable.

It kind of depends on the kind of reinforcement you use for the human male. I find that beer and seduction work well.

Marci, if you can train a human male, you can train anything!! I don't have the patience for it!

Most male human species are impossible to train unless training started at a very young age. It is pertinent when looking for the right male that you keep a checklist of qualities that will meet your specific needs such as: 1. Can he hit the toilet? 2. Is he sensitive to the needs of others in the household? 3. Does he snap at others? 4. Is he dominant with other males (you can tell this by waiting to see if he rolls over on his back when other males are in the area)? 5. When called, does he immediately come to you or does he wander around aimlessly until you threaten to lock him out?

As mentioned earlier, these things can primarily only be trained from an early age, so be certain to meet the maternal unit to see what her characteristics are as well. It would also help to meet the paternal unit to see any behavioral patterns.

Clicker training has been shown with male humans to only agitate them, especially when there is a football game on.

The most important thing to remember is this: Do not get a male human with the intention of training him. Be certain you have obtained the one that best suits your needs to begin with.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! ROFL!! This is good advice! :)
I've pretty much given up on any kind of serious relationship. I just hang out with my ex (Bev's dad) from time to time. It's hard to find a guy who loves animals, doesn't have kids, and does have a decent job. Not that I don't love kids. I've just had my fill of dealing with ex-wives!
