Help with kittens

Nancy on My Blog - Tue, August 26 2008

Here is an update on mama and her 9 (!) kitties. We took them off of the patio, and put them into my dogs' cage. They are currently in the cage (it's big enough) on a girl's patio. She is willing to keep them until they are weaned, but after that, she can't keep them, obviously. I'm not worried about them with her because she has two cats of her own, and she is a big animal lover.

If anyone knows of a rescue or agency that will help us, I would greatly appreciate being put in touch with them. I have talked to Naomi with ARPO, and she referred the girl who is housing them to indy feral for spaying and neutering, but that still doesn't solve finding them homes.

The best solution would be for mama and babies to be put in a foster affliated with a rescue so they could get their shots and spay and/or neuter, but I know everyone is full.

I guess we just need some direction. HSI told her they would be held for two days and then put down. Yikes!

They are so sweet, and mama is so sweet and such a good mom, too.

Can anyone help? PM me or you can call me @ 299-0653 or work 227-2377.

Thanks!

Nancy

I just talked to Cats Haven. She wasn't very pleasant or nice. Kind of acted like she thought they were my pets or something.

They are full, which I knew, I was just asking if she could point me somewhere else, but she was snotty about it. Referred me to a website with a page about finding a home for YOUR pet, which reinforces her attitude that she thought they were mine. So, I won't be getting help from them, obviously.

That's unfortunate about the unpleasant person who you talked to. I know most places are full right now and unfortunately many people are looking to dump their pets, but I'm still not sure it calls for the bad attitude. Though I don't know if I could be nice to people either if I had to deal with people wanting to dump their pets all the time. (NOT that I think you are dumping a pet....)

Anyway, I'm really not sure who else you can contact. I know Stacy has been fostering for Wags, maybe you can contact them? Maybe you could talk Stacy into fostering them, she seems to have the touch and an empty bathroom! lol Good Luck and thanks for trying to do everything you can for this mama and her kittens.

I think I misunderstood when we were PMing. I thought the person who has them now wanted to foster them! In that case, I was thinking ARPO would let you adopt them through there. When do you want them to go into foster? Don't worry, we'll come up with something! I have a feeling the basement bathroom is booked again! ;)

Oh good, then "auntie Lisa" can come over and get her kitty fix. With 9 kittens and a mama cat I'll be in heaven. I'll make sure to bring toys. :)

I haven't had much luck with the folks at Cat Haven either although I know they do great things , they have never been friendly when I called. You might try From the heart in Westfield. I have been to their shelter to donate kitty toys and food . It's an older couple who have devoted their life to saving kitties. Their shelter house has cat cages lining the walls (very clean ones!) and they rotate kitties so they can come out to play and be brushed and loved . They are at Petsmart in Westfield almost every weekend .They are so kind , I know they would help you if they can.http://www.heartrescue.org/
