Craig's List Scam

Connie on Laws - Mon, August 25 2008

I don't look at Craig's list. It seems too depressing. But, one of my co-workers surfs the Pets section daily. She found a bullmastif puppy listed and she is wanting just such a puppy, so she emailed. The listing said the dog was in Indianapolis.

Here is the reply she got:

Hello,
This boy is a very intelligent dog and has a definite mind of his own. His independence of spirit makes your relationship with him more of a working partnership than the conventional dog. He will give your family boundless love and devotion. Your children will be his charges to protect and love. He has been vet checked and vaccinated. He is current on his deworming and is potty trained.
I am currently Carrying out a Geological research in Lake Nyos here in British Cameroon and I came along with this boy. The tropical weather conditions and the absence of trained vets familiar with the breed is a major handicap. He is finding it difficult to adapt to the tropical heat.It is best for him if a good pet loving home adopt him.I am willing to let you adopt this boy with the promise of treating him right and giving him the love he deserves. If you are ready then all you need to do is pay for his shipping cost which is $200. He will come along with his crate, papers and remaining vaccines.
regards

So for a mere $200, which I assume you send to the British Cameroon, you get this puppy! Right. Sheesh. I wonder if anyone actually does this.

Actually, this is a pretty common scam in line with the money wiring scams from Nigeria. You'd be suprised at how many people actually fall for this type of thing. It's sad.

You would be amazed at how often these scams are posted. I flagged that one the second that I saw it because I knew it was fishy. Pic of a young BM but very little info and the sentence structure was just a little off. Good to know I flagged properly. I too wonder if people actually fall for this.
