1,000 dogs rescued in West Virginia

Connie on Grief - Mon, August 25 2008

I'm pasting a link to a press release about 1,000 dogs that were found at a puppy mill in West Virginia. Most of them were dachshunds, but there were other small breeds. Obviously, the Parkersville Humane shelter is now over run and in desperate need of supplies and cash.

So far, I can find no reports that the person running the puppy mill will be charged, except for perhaps a pollution violation, which is how the police got onto the property.

1,000 dogs. Think of that. All living in wire cages, some it said had no access to fresh water.

That so pisses me off.

Crazy b**ch! People like that should be placed in wire cages in the hot sun with no water. Here's a link with some pics and a video http://www.humanesociety.org/hsus_field/hsus_disaster_center/disasters_press_room/a_thousand_dogs_freed_from_wv_082408.html I will say that the dogs they showed actually looked healthy and were good specimens of the Doxie breed. I love the pics of the super pregnant momma Doxie. Poor girl. At least she will be safe along with her babies. Why are puppy mills NOT illegal?!?!?!?!!??

I don't understand that the lives of these precious babies are not valued... They are living, breathing, feeling babies and it's not illegal?!?!?

I totoally agree that those people should be given a tast of their own medicine. We could all just walk by and ignore them!

And No, I haven't put in an application for any of them yet! We did go see the momma Doxie and pups at Petsmart yesterday. Cute pups but looked like dad was a big brindle Pit/hound mix or someting. The pups were really big and looked nothing like Doxies.

Monica, I figured you would have already been in the car on the way to West Virginia :)

That is so sad. I sure feel lucky to have my home when I see things like this. xoxo LCC

check out what all the states do regarding puppy mills- http://www.hsus.org/web-files/PDF/legislation/puppy-mill-laws-chart.pdfhttp://www.hsus.org/web-files/PDF/legislation/puppy-mill-laws-chart.pdf very interesting . How can things be improved ?. Can the governor do it ? How do you get the legislation ? When I read that she "said" she wouldn't raise dogs anymore it made me ill. If you have no sense of how wrong this is , what about the economics? Can you imagine how much money this idiot has cost the shelters striving to do the right thing .Why doesn't she have to pay ? Maybe if we could hit the pocket book of these "breeders" they would stop . Have there always been this many puppy mills ?
