I Gave Up My Favorite Toy

Charlie (Goosey) on Training - Thu, August 21 2008

Mom's been trying to get me to learn "give it" FOREVER! I think I finally got it, with extras!!!! I'm now giving up my favorite tug toy within a few seconds of being asked while I'm playing with mom. I even threw in a sit a couple of times for added effect. It worked, mom was so impressed. She's so excited! What a fun night. Anyone else working on new tricks?

I am learning to roll over. I did it as a trick tonight for my last day of dog class. The problem is, FM got so excited when I did it on the first try that I got excited, so when she asked me to do it again, I was too busy licking her face.

Way to go Charlie. That is a hard one to learn. I like to KEEP my toys. But, Mom says I have to give them to her sometimes. I do, because she asks nice, but it is so HARD.

Way to go Charlie!

Nope, I haven't learned that one yet. We work on "drop it" when ma throws my stick to me outside but I don't like to drop it. I like to *pretend* I'm going to drop it then run off like a bat out of h-e double hockey sticks!

Great job, Charlie. Ps Dude, you'll learn that if you give it over, they play with you more and more. I think it makes them happy.

Personally, I love to shove my ball at people and insist on playing. The lady that lives next door (two fences and a path away, mind you) was talking to me the other day so I took it upon my self to toss her my ball. Now she couldn't reach it since she was in her fenced in yard and I in mine but that didn't stop me from barking at her like "don't just stand there, play ball!"

You go Charlie! That's a hard trick to do. I do "Drop". I just drop it on the ground. I even did it with a tasty dead bird I found outside once. Mom was proud of me for that. She didn't think I would drop it. I did though. I'm a good dog!! You're a good dog too with all that training you're doing! Sheila is going to have some competition! I don't worry much about Minnie. I think I'll always be better behaved than she is!

That's a great trick you learned. I won't give up my frisbee. When Mom wants it, I think it's tug of war time. Guess she needs to trade me treats for it, then maybe I'd learn.

My favorite two old tricks are...

a) when mom says "Daisy ball"
I throw the ball to her.

b) when mom calls me to come in
b/c I just found a rabbit
or squirrel scent..I pay
no attention to her. My
"selective hearing" kicks
in. Cool...don't you
think?

We're working on "leave it". Like the cicadas I've been finding on the sidewalk...

Yea, I'm working on some tricks. Like "SHUT UP". Mom's reading up on how to help me stop barking every time I go outside. I just love to run in circles and bark at the neighbors!! It's FUN!!! Clicker training, here I come. :) xoxo LCC
