OT - Acai berries

Debbie on Health - Tue, August 19 2008

These berries are the new craze. They're twice the anti-oxidants as blueberries or pommegranets and they're found in the amazon. Here is a link to some info http://www.acai.vg/

I thought I'd try a drink made with these berries. I found it at Marsh and it's called Sambazon. Here's a link http://www.sambazon.com/

This is the weirdest drink I've ever had in my life. It's not bad, if you don't mind drinking pulverized wheat grass along with the berries. It's not that I didn't like it, (I got the "supergreens revolution") I was just not prepared for that texture and looking at it, you'd guess it was watered down mud. Seriously.

I couldn't drink it all at once but I did get it all down. I also got a mango kind, maybe that won't be as odd. I don't know..

Have any of you tried this?

Just this morning I sent off for a free bottle of the pills. I was wondering how the juice tasted so now I won't wonder anymore and I also won't buy any.

That doesn't sound very good! I wish I had more time to eat healthy and work out. I haven't been taking very good care of myself. I'm always eating chips and junk. I need a chef!

I've had so many MRI's and tests where I have to drink that yucky stuff in the last few years. I can't even get down a sprite or 7-up. This doesn't sound like something I could drink either.

I married one...chef that is! I don't think I have cooked more than 10 meals in the last 10 years. Now if I could just train him to take out the trash I'd be good.

Sorry, but I'm kinda a wienie when it comes to trying new and different stuff. so I probably won't give this a try.

If it looks like pulverized wheat grass, my mom will never drink it. She eats with her eyes...meaning if it doesn't look good to her she doesn't eat/drink it. Now dad will try anything.

I gotta say that doesn't sound very appetizing....blagthththt!!! I think I'll just stick with my green tea. I gotta say that when I was your age, I never worried about what I ate or drank, so I think it's a good thing that younger people are so aware of how food affects their future health. Good luck!

I am thinking about trying a little Slippery Elm. Anybody tried this?

Yuck is all I can say. Texture is a big thing for me and I have a sensitive gag reflex. There's no way I'd get that down....

I'm all about texture, too. That doesn't sound appetizing at all.

Hopefully the mango one will be better!

I've had acai blueberry juice and it wasn't thick or gross - it was like regular juice, but it was very strong and tart. I diluted it with some club soda and it was pretty good.

Ok, the bottle said "smoothie". Nothing 'smooth' about it. Like Anne said, I'm sure the juice is better.

If you've ever tried the pomegranite (sp?) juice, it was like that...strong tasting and a bit thick, but not chunky or grainy... sort of syrupy... you definitely need to cut it with water or something. it sort of reminded me of Sweet Tarts (the candy, not the doxie) :)

LOL! I had my daughter try the mango one when she got home from school and it was so awful, she had tears in her eyes!! I was laughing so hard. She immediately popped a piece of chocolate in her mouth to get the taste out. Keith tried it too and he doesn't like it either. Oh well.. I gave it a try. I will try the plain juice next time.

I've had the plain juice, and I think it's great. I have also tried the sambazon stuff, and couldn't take it.

Of course you could mix the pomegranite juice or acai juice with vodka..add a little ice and I bet that would help the taste! :)
