Fleas have some sort of oily barrier on their outer 'shell' that keeps them from drowning in water. Any dish soap (though the original blue Dawn is most often recommended) that "breaks down grease" will remove that barrier from the flea and it drowns in the bath water.
I've actually used it on tiny kittens too young for Advantage. Worked REALLY well and never dried out their fur.
Know what my mom did?! She keeps our dog shampoo on the edge of the tub. Well, she ran out of her own shampoo and forgot to get more, so one morning she had to use our dog shampoo!! HAHAHAHA! Oh, gotta go, here she comes! :)
I'm surprised I haven't done it yet. I've got more ETB shampoo than my own.
I actually did do that! I have some oatmeal and aloe shampoo that I use on them. It smells pretty good. I was in the shower with wet hair and no shampoo. (I had already filled my shampoo bottle with water and got all the leftover out the day before.) I just forgot to go buy more shampoo. (I'm way too busy.) Anyway, I looked down and there was the dog shampoo. I figured it was better than nothing! :)
