That's awful, Boomer dude! I've had those and they're nasty... Did the vet check for crystals in your urine? Those can cause UTIs and be fatal of not caught and dissolved. Not to scare you... This was my problem so I eat a special food from Royal Canin called Urinary S/O and I've been crystal and UTI-free ever since. Cookie and Pearlie eat it too so they're covered. The crystals are very common in boy cats because of our ureathra... *blushing*. Take your meds like a good boy!! Keep us posted ,ok?
Brad, I'm so glad you were able to find a great vet--and a cat vet no less! I sure hope the meds work this time around and that Boomer gets rid of the infection this time around. Keep us posted about the bloodwork for the hypothyroidism.
Oh, have fun at the convention and try not to worry about Boomer. Sounds like you found a great person to look after him while you're gone.
Boomer has another appointment in two weeks. The vet said if he's still having the infection, he's going to check for crystals. That vet is on top of it!
Boomer's awful young to be hyperthyroid... that's a disease for old-pharts like me! I've got a mild/moderate heart murmur too (due to hyperthyroidism).
Good (?) news about that is it's fairly inexpensive to treat w/ meds once you pay out what seems to be a small fortune for tests. At least my mom had to... Seems the 'usual' tests weren't picking up much. Once everything is figured out (like dosage) the costs drop WAY down.
It's only about $20/mo for my meds -- I get the kind that's rubbed in my ear twice per day, pills are cheaper, but this way is easier for me and mom.
Since my heart murmur is only 2/3 (out of 6), I'm not currently on any meds for it, just regular 'quickie' vet visits for monitoring. Since I started the thyroid meds, it's remained the same for the past 3 years.
