Pitbull on the loose

Nicholas James on Grief - Wed, August 13 2008

Yesterday was an interesting day indeed. Mom and I were on a walk when a couple walked by with a stroller and told Mom she might not want to walk that way because there was a male pitbull loose. About 10 seconds after that, a guy drives by in his truck (along the canal in Broad Ripple) and tells my mom to pick me up because he just saw a loose pitbull attack a German shepherd and there was blood involved. Well, we were scared to death what a pitbull could do to me if he could attack a German shepherd. Since we were close to home, Mom let that nice guy drive us. I know, I know, you're not suppose to take rides from strangers but we would have been stranded. THEN, a couple of minutes after we got back inside, we saw that pitbull lingering around outside our house! Mom was cooking with the windows open and I think he was hungry. He was not acting mean, but Mom was afraid he was going to hurt another dog so she had to call the Mayor's Action Line and report the situation.

We are not sure what has come of the matter, but hopefully they came and picked the dog up. Mom was crying because she didn't want him to have to go to Animal Care and Control but she also didn't want him to hurt another animal : (

If anyone lives in the area, the dog is a black and white, in tact male with no collar. Thanks for listening.

I'm glad you and your mom were not hurt. We all know that not all pitbulls are mean. I'm sure there were a lot of people that reported the dog. I feel bad for the owner of the dog that was attacked by the pitbull. My little Andy was almost grabbed by a pitbull and he would have been killed right before me. I know I would have gone into shock. I kinda felt sorry for that pitbull. He was a fighter that still wanted to kill but was shot by my neighbor to save me and Andy. The dog died.

I'm glad you are okay. That sounds scary but just know that we all aren't mean! I love other dogs and people but I do get excited. Mommy says shame on the dogs' owner for not taking better care of him. That's so sad to hear. :(

Mom would have freaked no matter what breed it was. Thank goodness you have nice people in your area to help watch out for little paws.

I definitely know that not all you pitbulls are mean...in fact that is the first mean one we have ever encountered! There is a staffordshire terrior in our neighborhood (Conrad) who I absolutely love and adore :) And you are right, BIG SHAME on his owner for not only letting him loose but also for not having him neutered.
