News coverage of IACC grievance

Connie on Activities - Wed, August 13 2008

The Indianapolis Star has a story in today's issue about the grievance filed against Indianapolis Animal Care and Control. It should be a very interesting meeting today at IACC. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. for anyone interested in attending.

Here is a link to the Star article. Also, Fox 59 covered the story yesterday I think.

I didn't get to see the Fox interview, but I thought the article expressed things pretty accurately. AND it was on the front page!!!!!

Good article! I'm glad it made the front page! I hope one of the major news channels shows up at the meeting tonight. Maybe then we will get a timeline for changes, which I think Scott Newman was going to work with Warren on anyway. Have you noticed it's always Scott Newman that has the ideas and seems to put things in action. What is Steve Talley doing other than saying, "I have to consult Mr. Newman"? Is he not allowed to make changes by himself? I thought that was the role of the administrator. Maybe I'm missing something.

I did see the FOX news thing last night. What kind of ticked me off was at the end the spokesperson said "besides, who would hurt a little dog or kitten?" Hopefully not anyone at the shelter but there are so many freaks out there that do. I assumne he was talking about the workers at the shelter but it was not well said after those cat killings being so recent up in Cicero.

Actually, what the city official said was "no one wants to hurt an animal." And he meant that no one at the shelter wants to harm a dog, cat, ferret, and so on. But Mama Muttblood is right. There are far too many people out there who would more than willingly injure a pet. Just ask the three three-legged cats I have in my home right now, as well as my deaf and declawed Ambrose who was tossed into a cornfield a few years ago, just like a piece of trash, and Madelyn who was abandoned with 30+ other unspayed/unneutered dogs in a home with no heat or water for well over a year. We see it all the time, and the level of human cruelty never ceases to amaze me.

Unfortunately lots of people would hurt a little dog or kitten, or just give them up and not care what happens to them after they drop them off.

I really thought the guy defending the shelter was pretty flip about the whole thing. Who would hurt a kitten or small animal ??? Has he even been to an animal shelter to see what indifference can do?? Please! It's really scarey to think of that attitude spear -heading needed change.

Sorry, I souldn't have quoted what I thought the guy said. Either way, he didn't impress me...

My impression of the Fox 59 story was that they were trying to say whoever filed the grievance was hurting animals because they were making it harder (and costlier) to take care of the animals at IACC. I missed part of it, though, so maybe I'm mis-interpreting what I heard.
