FOOD CONTANIER

Jen on Shopping - Tue, August 12 2008

i have been looking for a food container for Marakas food. We have recently been invaded by creepy crawlies from the dirty people that live above us. I want to ensure that Marakas food is well protected from dirty things that could make her sick. Any suggestions on the food contaniers for the monster?

I have been keeping my dogs' food in a rubbermaid bin for years and never had any trouble with bugs.

Same here - we got ours at Target. You can choos the bin, or we got one that is taller, with a flip top/locking lid. It fits ALMOST 40 lbs of food.

I use a 5 gal. painters bucket to store Titus's food. I got the bucket and lid from Menards for $5. I doubt it's airtight but so far there hasn't been any problems with bugs.

Rubbermaid bins for us, too. I had extra bins, so I appropriated two medium ones for the dog food.

My sister uses a Vittle Vault because it's supposed to be air tight, but the lid is screw on/off. Much easier to get the swinging lid, but it's not airtight.

Harry and I bought a tall kitchen garbage can with/lid. It can hold a 33lb bag of dog food nicely. We keep the food in the bag and just place the bag in the can. As the food goes down we just roll it closed. We got ours from Walmart for about $8.

Pet Supplies Plus (probably at other stores too, but I got my stuff there) carries large rubbermaid-style bins with wheels that are air tight. It's what I store my hairball's food in and it's a lot easier than wrestling with food bags. My container holds 25-30# or so, they have bigger and smaller models.

Hey Jen,

We use a "food despencer" made by buddeez, heres a link to it

you just slide your bag down in it, or if you have a bigger bag like us, we just dump what we can fit into it and store the rest in the bag until its needed!

it has a handle and a flip up spout on it, so it makes things easier when you pour it into your pets dish!

Hope this helps!
