Mom said I had a monkey on my back!

Star Hunter on Health - Fri, August 08 2008

I was very sick and acting strange when mommy got home from work yesterday. She called the vet and off we were to the vet. I got to see a different vet than my usual one. She was so nice and gave me a very good exam. I have a secondary respitory infection. I had 103+ temp. and was dehydrated as well. I was just miserable.I got a shot and some pills to settle my stomach,a months supply of a new anntibiotic, 4 cans of high calorie food, stuff to add to my food to put good bacteria in my tummy. Then! She took me to the back for some fluids. Not a good sign to go in back. When I got back to mommy, I had this big cold lump on my back. She put me on the floor and I went belly down with all four paws stretched out. No way was I going to walk with this thing on my back. I got a little look. Yup, it is a squirrel and not a monkey on my back. I need the Patrol out here ASP! They are becoming so bold that they are jumping us now. I was acting much better this morning. Momma even got me to eat some of that stinky new food. The vet said it would take some time for the cough to go away though. I want to thank you IP friends for your concern.

That was a nasty case of kennel cough wasn't it! We're so glad you're on the mend. Rest up.

I had one of those squirrels on my back a few months ago and mom put it on there! I was really sick back in May and mom had to help me out with some fluids at home. Hope you're feeling better soon. that kennel cough is nasty stuff and I heard it can lead into pneumonia.

What a relief to hear that you're on the mend now. We were worried about you. Now do what your vet says, and make sure that you get plenty of hugs & kisses from your Mommy.

I'm so glad you're now on the mend, and that your mom got a second opinion. Make sure you finish your antibiotics, and that you eat and drink. The squirrels can wait until you're better. If if would make you feel any better, I'd be happy to send Charlie over to your house to do patrols now and then. He LOVES treeing those squirels, me too!

Star, I'm very glad that you went back to the doctor. Keep taking your meds and eating that high calorie stuff and drinking your water. We want you to be all better!

It was smart of your mom to take you to see that new vet. Glad to hear you're feeling better! I bet it was those wretched squirrels that gave you the cough. They're probably mixing up viruses as we speak, just plotting the doom of all dogs!

Star - I'm SO glad you went to the vet, I had the exact same thing last november same fever and everything! and they had to put the fluids in my back too! I was all lumpy and squishy and I did not like it one bit, but I felt TONS better within a day or two.
