Low Cost Vaccines

Jennifer on Health - Fri, August 08 2008

Somebody posted a couple of websites for low cost vaccines. I know Pet Supplies Plus holds a clinic but can someone give me a couple more referrals?

I need to get Zena's shots and heartworm testing but my Vet is charging $ 214.00 now!

Thanks for your help!

Also, Tractor Supplies in Greenwood hosts Animal Fair twice a month. They give low cost shots, plus heartworm tests, and they sell heartworm preventive meds.

I have taken Sydney up to the Low Cost Spay and Neuter clinic in Noblesville. Here is a link to their website. http://www.lowcostclinic.org/index.htm

We went to the Indy Pit Crew Community Pet day. They did vacs except rabies for $10 and microchips for $10 and had coupons for Rabies at a local vet for $10. Next one is tomorrow, 8/9! They are held at the Boys & Girls Club. See website: www.indypitcrew.org.

There is an advertiser on the main page of indypaws.com under "low cost vaccinations"... it is the group that has vaccines every Saturday at Tractor Supply. Look on the lower right hand side of the main page and click on their logo to see the times and locations

We went to FACE last time. They are very reasonable, and a real vet does a quick look over of the animal. Here's the link with the pricing and location. With four critters, we saved a TON of money!

My biggest concern with low-cost vaccine clinics is not being able to go back for other stuff. I like that my vet knows me and my pets if they get sick or hurt. Some people really do need the extra assistance, but the turnstyle feeling doesn't do it for me. My vet discounts the yearly exam with the vaccines.

I'm with you on this one. We only do vaccines every 3 years so that does help with expenses. Our vet is very reasonable also. I personally feel more comfortable having a vet that knows my dogs and that we've built a relationship with. I think it helps her know their norms and would also help if I needed a payment plan or had an issue like that. Hopefully people that use the low cost clinics for vaccines also have a regular vet that they see on a regular basis. Honestly some of the low cost clinics don't look that low cost to me. I would rather see someone take their pet to something like that rather than not have their vaccines done.

Dad took me to FACE last week to get a checkup and my shots. My 3yr. Rabbies vaccine was $16.00, 5 in 1 vaccine was $14.00 and Bordetella vaccine was $14.00. Apparently, we had a $10.00 credit so all it cost was $23.00. Dr. Zenor was a very nice lady and I liked her very much. Except when she told dad that I needed to loose weight and to put me on a diet. No cheeseburgers or extra treats for me for awhile. NO CHEESEBURGERS! Not happy about that. I'm not fat! I'm just big boned. I think that is cruel. I mean, how am I to live without cheeseburgers?
