Eddie's first vet told us he had oseo chondritis (or soemthing like that). And that we should put him to sleep. I went for a second opionion, and the second doc said yes he did have it, but there's a chance he'd grow to be normal. So we took that chance and he seems fine now. We just have to make sure he eats healthy.
Why would putting a pet to sleep be a first option for any Vet? I can understand in extreme cases, but a broken jaw. Kind of like the people on craigslist that are going to have their cat put to sleep because he sprays.
I'm not sure. A mutual friend of ours sent me an email and let me know she had been found. She didn't say how she found her, only that she searched for 4 hours and finally did find her! Her jaw was broken and she was in shock. She could've been hit by a car. She took her to the emergency clinic where they got her stabilized, but her blood sugar levels weren't coming up to normal. The vet at the clinic said she had pancreatic cancer and my friend should euthanize her! My friend, being a mom like us, insisted on a biopsy and found out she doesn't have cancer. I wasn't sure whether to include all that because I don't want to start crap about the clinic, but that is the story (with a few of the details about her anger at the clinic left out).
I have taken my dogs to this place before and not had problems, but I guess it depends on the vet and vet techs you're dealing with. As always, follow your gut instinct with your babies and DO NOT just let someone else tell you what to do if you don't feel it's right!
Loki's Vet told me he had a heart murmur. I took him to see a cardiologist and he said he was fine. No heart problems. Just shows a second opinion is a good idea.
