I scared mommy!!

Charlie on Behavior - Tue, August 05 2008

Boy I really did it today! Scared mommy something fierce-- she's still not over it!

See, this is how it all happened- this morning, we went outside for my A.M. efforts, and as you will recall, it was rainy & icky. Well I don't like to go outside when it's yucky, but like a good boy, I followed mommy out to the driveway. Then I put on the brakes! I did not want to move- especially since there was a huge puddle at the end of the driveway. So I stopped dead in my tracks but mommy kept going because she figured she could get me to move along-- after all, I do have to wear a choke collar. Mommy says that's the best way to keep my collar on, and I can get pretty defiant about following mommy's direction sometimes...well anyway, today I figured out how to get loose from the collar! Before she knew what was going on, I had shrugged my way out of the choke collar and was just standing there in the driveway with no leash on whatsoever!

Mommy about passed out with fear, but she managed to keep calm & got me back on the lead, even though I kept moving around- luckily I didn't see any squirrels or anything worth chasing, otherwise I would have been outta there! WOW mommy was so nervous to see me standing close to Allisonville Rd with no leash on-- she made sure to give me extra lovin and a treat when we got back inside.

Guys, how can I make this up to her? More snuggles? Or maybe I shouldn't start asking for playtime when mommy starts to read her book...anyway, I'm glad to be back inside where it's safe & dry! BARK

Dude--don't scare your Mama like that. You're her baby boy. I'm thinking you need to call for flower delivery and maybe offer her one of your treats. You want me to send over some biscuits? Give her lots of love and stay on that leash. I hate the rain too but we gotta be safe.

Sam hill, what were you thinking? I know your mama and she's really nice. Don't give her a heart attack, dude!

Aww that's nice of you to say, Deuce! Mommy thinks your mommy is nice too plus she says that you always give her lots of lovin, which reminds me- you gotta see the picture that my mom has of you & Hoovie! Both of you are thisclose to jumping on my mom for some kisses- it's hilarious!

Do we need to take this before the board of MMD? No fellow, regardless of age, breed or disposition, should slip his collar EVER! You should always cooperate with your Mom (hey, like I do, but I know better), especially if it's raining. Your choice is make a mess in the house and get in trouble or deal with a puddle and do your business like a good boy. Negotiate with Mom and walk through the grass. The equipment gets kind of wet, but it's better than getting flattened. Don't whine, beg or be a pain today, Charlie; your mom will appreciate it! Oh, you were a good boy to stand/stay so mom could grab you. I know, it was the rain.

Yes, I think this issue needs to be addressed in our next MMD meeting, for sure! Our mommies (and daddies) would appreciate having some ground rules on proper behavior when loose. And yes Starter, my equipment got a little soggy but mommy made sure to dry me off- and I got to sit on her lap while she toweled me down, so that helps the drying process too!

That's scary dude! You even got Sashi's attention up there!! I've slipped my collar, too. Moms freak out when that happens...

My mom would freak too. You'd better give your mom lots of love to make up for that. Like I'm one to talk though - I have jumped the fence before and been over sniffing the neighbor's front yard. My mom is pretty tricky though. She acts like she has found something wonderful and exciting and starts calling me. Of course, I have to check it out, so I'm a sucker and come running to her every time. Tricky ol' mom!! Now she just watches me like a hawk every time I'm outside.
