HELP!! Major licking problem...

Mookie and Binx on My Blog - Fri, June 15 2007

Is there such a thing as licking anonymous? I need to go if there is. I have licked my foot so much that I have a HUGE sore on it. Mom keeps taking me to the vet but nothing seems to help. Every time mom puts medicine on it and covers it up, I lick and bite until I get it off. Yesterday I was bleeding. Mom is so worried about me. Does anybody have any ideas? --Mookie

Maybe it's an anxiety thing. Like you just got to doing it, and now it's a habit maybe? Our Mom says she once had a Toy Poodle who did that, & she would lick her one front paw till it bled. Sometimes Mom would bandage it up. Creams just didn't work. Are you around chemically treated grass? Or household cleaning products? Sure hope you get some relief---that is really annoying.

Sounds like you're a dog who can't hold your licker...Okay, bad jokes aside!! I think your mom may need to take out the lampshade to keep you from licking your paw after she medicates it so the meds have time to work. sorry to have to break it to you. I hate the lampshade myself.

Do you take any oral itch medication? I do this because of allergies. I take hydroxyzine. Great stuff! Chech with your vet.

Sulfadene will work too. It's really stinky and yellow. Mom puts in on my back when I'm too itchy and keep biting. Trust me, you don't want to lick it again! ACKKKKK, it's horrible tasting. But it also helps to heal the sore. You can buy it at Wal Mart or about anywhere.
