Petshotel Irony in Advertising

Medley on My Blog - Fri, August 01 2008

The Petsmart in Castleton is converting part of the store into a Petshotel, and the other day I noticed that the new in-store ad for the Petshotel shows a dog that appears to be a pit bull type dog in a canine suite being given a stuffed kong by an employee. I find this really ironic, since pit bull type dogs will not be allowed to use the Petshotel.

"†Dogs in the "bully breed" classification (e.g. American Pit Bull Terriers, Miniature Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, American Bull Dogs, Bull Terriers or mixed breeds that have the appearance or characteristics of one of these breeds). For the safety of all animals and associates, and at the discretion of PetSmart, some pets may not be permitted." from http://petshotel.petsmart.com/doggie-day-camp/requirements.shtml

They may not be able to use the hotel but, they may be able to work there to make out life nicer. Besides, we would have some very good security!!

That is OUTRAGEOUS. I may never go in there again.

I'm really disappointed in them for participating in breed discrimination. I may have to go in there and ask about it. They're one of those stores that rides the middle. They work with rescue, but still sell small animals, birds and reptiles. They cater to dogs and cats, but now they won't allow certain breeds in their hotel. They do enough to keep animal welfare advocates coming in, but they also do things they shouldn't be. I don't normally shop there, but they're going on my blacklist for this stunt. I'll be sure to let them know that too.
