Ear drop day!

Skittles on My Blog - Fri, June 15 2007

So it's Thursday, and that means ear drop day! Let me tell you, it was terrible! Do they have the keep that stuff in the big cold closet. It is freezing!! Oh and of course Fluffy took it like a pro. All I heard was "Oh Fluffy, what a good girl you are" Bleh! Yeah like Fluffy never does anything wrong!
So...back to the ear drops. So my dear sweet Daddy was holding me and then my Mom comes up to me and had the drops, and without me knowing, (I was getting rubbins), she puts two right into my ear! So I start to fight for my life and Daddy wont let me go! Hmph! ...see if you ever find your socks again! So after the horror of one ear getting the drops, Mommy says to let her down and maybe we can try another time.
So an hour or so passes by and they get they other ear! Oh and Mother, puts in one extra drop just to be sure some the the medicine sticks, cause I shake my ears too much. Well of course I do, this stuff is awful! Oh and did I mention the smell. It smells so clean! Now I try to stay and stinky as possible, and now after the drops I have to wash my ears with my own spit just retain a shred of my own scent!
This really cannot go on much longer! Oh what is a kitten to do? *sigh*

You had to have drops put in today too! I hate those things! Mom doesn't have any help with me, so she has to trick me! I'm mean, I hiss and growl and squirm! It's just a matter of time before I catch onto her and I'll start running when I see her coming my way! Such is the life of a kitty...

I know I'm a dog and all, but my Mom works in the medical field. She says if you warm them up, they don't hurt. It works for eyedrops, too. Since Mom's got one of those booby trap things on, she carries it around the house tucked inbetween the fluffy things and then they're warm. She had ear infections herself a lot when she was a kid, pink eye sometimes, too. Warming helps a lot. I don't know what your Dad would do with them. Maybe both of them could carry the bottle around in their front pants pocket for a little while to warm them up. Just a thought

Skittles, I know you won't like me because of what I'm about to say, but regardless I still hope that we can be buddies. Dad said NOT to heat up the ear drops because they are most effective at cold temps. The more you heat them up, the more the proteins in the medicine breaks down. The more the proteins break down, the less effective against the mites. Sorry, but recommendation is for cold drops.

P.S. I had mites when I was little too...around Christmas no less! They are no fun and I sympathize with your anguish. Dad used to give them to me when I was in deep sleep. There is no worse way than to wake up than with chilly drops down the ears!

If they're cold, and body heat warms them after they're in your ear, does that mean that they loose their effectiveness once you drop them in? Maybe people drops are different chemical make up than ours. Just curious.....

Thanks a lot for the support! Mom called the vet, and she deff. said to keep them cold! So I guess that means I have to suffer. I will admit, I dont itch my ears near as much! Doesnt mean I like it though!
