It depends on the situation, whether we work in the dark or not. Sometimes, we might just flip the light on for a second, then back off. For instance, if we were tracking a criminal who might have a weapon, we would take the hound into the field, scent him, and pay close attention to the direction that the dog *looks*, then tell the cops, "He's over in THAT area!" then the cops would shine their lights, and all go running that way. We would not continue, as we don't wanna get SHOT! Sometimes, though, you want to flip the light on, just to see what your dog is doing, if it's pitch black outside. I like to keep mine off, for the most part, or keep the red light on, instead of the other lights. Oh, BTW, it went great last night, we had a blast, the dogs did great, too. We had a starter pistol, and on the last trail, the guy would shoot it, right as the hounds would get near. Joe did startle, but then quickly got back to work. I was so glad, because he's afraid of fireworks! It was funny when he got to the guy, he sat down, but turned his back to the guy, like he was looking for where that sound came from, LOL. Silly hound! My pants were SOAKED with dew, up past my knees, and I didn't get home till about 1 or 1:30. We stopped at White Castle, and I got Joe some chicken rings for his "night night" snack. ;o)
Kelly, you have a strange idea of fun!!! Actually it does sound like fun, and I'm glad you guys don't put yourselves in harm's way trying to help catch bad guys. I love watching the bad guy catching dogs, when they hold the suspect just by staring at his crotch ☺
Me too! I am always hoping the criminal moves, so the K9 can bite them, LOL! Yeah, I do have a strange idea of fun, hehe, but I am just *different*,I guess, LOL! ;o)
Oh, man....White Castles....I think I'd be able to scent out a bad guy for that!!!! At least I'd try!!! All kidding aside....you have to be so proud of Joe....and yourself too. I think that training would be very rewarding to you both.
