That's how I chose FiFi from petfinder.com - her eyes nabbed me. And also that she was in Charleston WV where my sister lives, so I got a two in one! Visited my sister for Thanksgiving, and brought my baby girl home! I especially have photos of Sashi that you can see the angel in her coming right through her eyes. She had the most soulful and almost "clairvoyant" eyes. xoxo D
That was Matt and he did not get adopted. I couldn't believe it! I had several people who just loved that little guy, but no one took him home.
I just learned Holden at Hamilton County Humane is heartworm positive. His treatment has been sponsored! Now, all he needs is a foster home!! My girls haven't had their bordatella shots yet. I'm going to try to get them over this week. However, they have to have one and then another two weeks later to be protected. Surely someone on here could find some room for Holden or knows someone!? He needs to be kept in a crate throughout his treatment, so he just needs a quiet room somewhere to recover and a couple of walks per day.
I really don't think I could have another pet in my house, but just in case I'm able to present a good argument to the husband, how long would the heartworm treatment (aftercare) take, typically? We both work full time and I'm assuming an appropriate foster would have someone there throughout the day to monitor the pet, is that correct?
I just talked with HCHS. Heartworm treatment takes 3 to 6 months, but Holden is probably leaning more toward 6 months. He will need to be kept quiet and calm during that time. He can't jump around and play with kids or other dogs. The treatment breaks up the worms and if he gets too excited, a piece can break off and cause problems. It is OK if you work full-time, but you'll need time to take him for at least 3 walks a day so he can use the bathroom. He won't be able to run around a yard. This is just the quick info I got on the phone. I think there may be some people on here who have fostered a heartworm positive dog and could give some good first-hand advice!!
Thank you for taking the time to make a phone call I should have made. I just always hate calling to get their hopes up if I can't help. The biggest problem is convincing hubby to do it since I just talked him into a puppy last month and the cat and the setter have been giving us the cold shoulder ever since. Thanks, again, for the info!
No problem at all!! I'm glad to get the info because I was thinking about it too. I'm not sure I have a good set up for him though. I could keep him secluded in a room, but with my two girls, I'm not sure he'll get enough attention.
