Okie Doke's mom here, and Oakley is in his second year of 4H obedience training. I think it does wonders for a dog (most dogs) he is well behaved and walks very well unless his buddy is around. He is so excited to have a friend walk with him that he can hardly contain himself.LOL As far as class goes, Oakley does great, his only downfall is that he loves to be social. Last year was his first year of training and at only 6 months of age, out of 7 other dogs, he came in second. We use his obediance alot at home too and when we boarded him for our vacation last year for 10 days, they said they had wished all dogs were so well behaved. This year we have advanced to obedience off lead and added showmanship (which is hard for the kids and dogs) and agility. Annie has also had a year of obedience and my other son decided not to do 4H with her this year (because he is a little on the lazy side). She did wonderfully and actually got first place last year beating Oakley. She has retained everything that she has learned and still does very well. I think we will continue with Oakley as far as we can in 4H. I'm not sure what kind and where other competitions and shows are out there.
wow, that is awesome!! sounds like oakley is doing great!!! as a pet groomer, i can't tell you what a difference it makes for us (that deal with other folks dogs) when owners have trained in some obedience with their dogs. it is always noticeable!! it sounds like not only are your dogs well trained, but that you are good trainers (and listeners to your instructors that taught you) as well!! good for you!! :)
