Happy pet thoughts-please add

Dachsaholic on My Blog - Thu, July 17 2008

I guess if the BFF's can talk about what makes them happy, then I can too. Sometimes it seems like no matter how hard you try to help the animals, you get kicked back four steps. So I'm trying to think positive and think about some good animal things instead of obsessing about the CL people that wanted $75 for their intact, cat food eating, no shots, gets cat heartworm every 3 months, Dachshund. I'm disappointed but hopefully who ever takes her will spay her(the woman told Jerry she was spayed after the man already told me she wasn't). Whatever! So happy pet thoughts----

-Adoptions were great last Saturday! At least 4 animals found their furever homes. No one brought any in to dump on us-also good.
-emailed a lady from CL and told her a big bird was probably NOT the best pet for an elderly lady-suggested cat or small dog. She responded nicely and said they were going to try to convince her to change her mind.
-my brother adopted from IACC.
-another brother called today to ask about his dog's torn ACL. He didn't have any diagnostics done yet but he also didn't have her put to sleep yet so that's positive. Hopefully he follows up on my recommendations and she can get better.
-I have heard of several mill/BYB's closing down because of decreasing sales. Hopefully we're making people aware of the horrors of pet shop puppies.
-Cocoa finally re-grew the hair on her tail and her coat is much less flaky and looks better. Now if she could only lose some weight.
-the last IACC meeting has some very positive parts to it. I hope they will go No Kill soon!
-I can only see pets and pet related items/activities, etc increasing. There are so many people whose animals are their surrogate children and they want the best for them. Hopefully we can continue to educate and make the world better for our pets. Anybody else want to share happy animal thoughts?

Oh sure, I always want to play happy games, like Pollyanna. It helps when things aren't so great. My happy thoughts are similar to yours in terms of lots of adoptions at ARPO last week, Daisy's happy story about all the people they talked to who had adopted from shelters/rescues. Jana Kohl's appearance on the circle trying to spread the word about the horrors of puppy mills. The fact that Petlane in Carmel closed!!!!! The thought that, whether he wins or loses, Obama and his family are pretty committed to adopting, not buying from a breeder (although he is a politician and they all talk out of both sides of their mouths.) Maddie went to Stacy's and interacted with Bev and Deuce in a neutral and positive way. My husband volunteering to Cesar the girls at least once a day while I'm gone. Martha Boden is gone, opening the door for better things to happen at HSI. All my IP friends make me extremely happy!!!!

Wanna hold hands and sing Kumbaya too:-)? I was just so frustrated so I thought it was better to think of good things than the 10 million bad ones that are congregating in my noggin.

I can add at least one more. Tonight, Wen Sing bit Charlie (Goosey) on the ear. Result - NOTHING! Charlie just continued to destroy his brand new toy. I'm beyond happy with my little guy right now.

I'm always up for holding hands and singing darn near anything. That makes me happy too!

Here's a good thing... Our new "feral" kitty, Johan is acting like a regular ol' kitty! :) The first few days he was very timid, but now he plays and jumps and eats good and drinks good. Yay for Johan!

It is a small thing, but Nigel graduated to Level 2 in his dod training class! And one of the instructors mentioned that he thought with training Nigel would be an excellent therapy dog! - which I've thought myself. I've decided that will be our overarching goal - to get him his therapy certificate. I think he'd be great at it.

That's not a small thing at all! Congratulations!
