I got in trouble : (

Andy on Behavior - Thu, July 10 2008

Last night Mom and Dad left for not even 15 minutes to get some dinner and I got into the trash because they left it in my reach. They usually gate it off but Mom forgot.

They were pretty mad at me and told me I need to start acting my age, whatever that means? Dad also yelled at me and shoved my face in the garbage. Mom says that was harsh, but Dad says she is too soft on me.

I ran upstairs and went straight to bed. Whoa is me : (

Aww, Andy, sorry you got in trouble. We've been in trouble this week too, what with FiFi running outside in that storm and then I got nervous and pooped on the kitchen floor. Geesh, what a week. You must learn to stay out of the trash and eat only the fresh things that your Mom and Dad give you. Garbage can make you very sick. Not to mention in BIG trouble!!! Hope things get better soon. xoxo LCC

Um, we're both 8-years-old, and we still get into the trash. I think it's a "dog thing". I agree with your mom. That was too harsh.

Yea, no face shoving!! If that happened to me, I would get my nose caught in an empty pop bottle.

Poor Andy. That was not nice to do face shoving. That is toooo harsh. You were just doing what dogs do. Act so sad and carry this to the limit. Your Dad owes you some snuggles and treats for this.

not a dog thing in this house unless you want a red baboon butt.

Did you tell your dad that shoving your face in the trash won't make you stop wanting to get in the trash, but it WILL make you be afraid of him. I'm afraid that is a lose-lose proposition.

I know it's frustrating sometimes, but our pups don't know why we're yelling or shoving their faces, ya know?

It might take a little bit of work to teach Andy to leave the trash, but you can do it and I believe Andy can do it. In the meantime, make the trash inaccessible when you are leaving the house or going to bed.

Besides scaring Andy, I'm pretty sure Dad didn't feel any better for treating Andy that way. Dads always say Moms are too soft, but I'm the one Carolina listens to. Remember, we're supposed to be the thinking ones here. Good luck with the trash.

If you're not caught in the actual act, you won't even know why your face was shoved in the trash. Dogs are dogs without reasoning ability. I wish your Dad hadn't done that, it makes me sad.

Have you ever tried bitter apple spray? Spray the trash and then purposely let Andy "taste" the trash. He'll get the bitter apple spray on his mouth instead. You may have to repeat this now & then to remind him that it's stll "yuck"
