Please Pray for Wiggles

Rachael on Health - Wed, July 09 2008

Today, the unthinkable happened. The sink has been leaking, so the cabinet doors there were left open to see from where the leak was springing. Apparently, there was a box of D-con under there that we all forgot about. Wiggles found it and ate the whole thing.

We called Doc right away, and he told us to induce vomiting right away, which we did. Wiggles threw up about seven times, and the D-con was very prominent. Of course, I was still worried sick, and didn't want to wait until morning to bring him in to the vet's (which Doc also advised). Caryn, one of the assistants, came in and he's been put on vitamin K1 pills for 10 days. She said there's not much else we can do. It's too late for an injection or charcoal. We're in a wait and see period.

With Wiggles' age, he's already more susceptible than a healthy dog. I'm literally terrified for his life right now. Please, keep him in your thoughts and pray that he can pull through this.

Oh my.... that is horrible. I'd be beside myself. We are praying that Wriggles can pull thru this and that he didn't ingest too much. Hang in there, Rachel... we're all praying for you both.

Oh no, Rachael, I will keep him in my prayers!! That happened to my sisters dog, and he took the vitamin k too, and he was fine, you never knew he ate the stuff. Keep positive thoughts, he will be ok. {{hugs}}

Thanks everyone. Doc think he'll be okay, too, I just worry too much about things. Right now I'm doing my best to stay positive. At least we caught it super early.

Catching it early is a huge advantage.

We'll be thinking of Wiggles too. Ernest did this when he was very young and since we got to it quickly, he was fine. We'll hope the same for Wiggles.

Yes, Wiggles seems to be fine this morning. He's peacefully asleep on his bed at the moment, which makes me hopeful. For the next 10 days, he'll be monitored and will go to the vet at the first sign of strange behavior. I'm starting to think he'll pull through, thank God. Once again, thanks for all of your concern. You are an amazing bunch of people!

I cheated and scrolled down to read this first, so am glad he's holding his own today. You got to him quickly with treatment, and I know you will be watching him like a hawk. We are praying for you and Wiggles.

Wiggles, luv, we are so glad to hear you are feeling better. What a miracle that you survived!! I survived being out in the storm this week all by myself after I snuck outside. Boy did I get in trouble and felt awful for making Mom cry. We are both survivors, me and you!! Get better fast and send us a note to let us know how you're feeling! xoxo FiFi

Wiggles is still doing well. So far, he hasn't shown any symptoms, which is a good thing. I've already decided that he's getting blood work done next weeks, to check liver and kidney function. He'll probably end up being on the pills for a month, but that's not a big deal. I'm just so glad that, for the moment, the outcome looks positive.

UPDATE: Wiggles has an appointment on Friday for blood work to check his platelets, liver and kidney function, and just overall health. He still hasn't shown any symptoms of being adversely effected by the rat poison, but I'm not taking any chances of having something slip by. Fingers are crossed that all goes well, and my boy will healthy for years to come.
