Canoe Trip

Sheila on Activities - Sun, July 06 2008

Now that Charlie's mentioned my embarrasing moment, I guess I should explain. We were paddling along looking for turles, birds (we did see several green herons), and other wildlife, when I decided I wanted to go ashore. I could have SWORN that we were close enough to the shore for me to touch the bottom. Boy was I wrong. Even worse, I learned that I really can't swim. I actually started to sink. Luckily, mom put our life jackets on us so I popped right back up to the surface. Mom got me back in the canoe, but not nearly as easily as Charlie. Now, she was soaked again with a 45 lb clingy, red, wet dog attached to her knee. This isn't even the worst part. The male bi-ped took pictures of me clinging to mom. I think Charlie was laughing at me, and I know momm was snickering. Oh the indignity of the whole thing.

I'm with you Sheila. There is no good reason why any of us needs to be floating around in a canoe.

In case you didn't know, my mom is afraid of the water.
Since I am adopted, no one knows if I have ever been in a lake or not and I'm not telling.

I actually like to wade in the water, and enjoy the canoe most of the time. I shook off the tauma, and enjoyed the rest of the afternoon. My mom LOVES the water, and grew up around and in Indiana lakes.

Oh, Sheila, that sounds dreadful. You cannot trust water.
