Is it wrong to be a lazy dog?

Andy on Fitness - Fri, June 27 2008

Sometimes Mom wonders if I am too lazy for my own good. She enjoys the fact that I am not a hyper-active dog, but she also wishes I would enjoy a little more physical activity.

She's tried taking me jogging and I am just dead weight. She's tried having me swim and I bark at the water. Sometimes, I'll play but that is usually only for a few minutes at a time, then I go back to lying around.

Do you think there is something wrong with me? Also, do any of you have any suggestions on how I can get a little more activity in my life?

PS: I do go on 2 long walks a day, but Mom was hoping for something a little more???

When I first came to live with mom in 2005, I was very active. Now 3 years later I have slowed down some. I get 3 nice walks everyday and I still run and look for squirrels in my backyard. I just don't play ball as often as I did before. I will be five in Nov. and my weight is still very good. Mom tries to think of differnt things for me to do but it is hard to come up with ideas.

Every dog has their own energy levels. While breed often predicts tendencies, not all dogs live up (or down) to the norm. Also, some dogs slow way down after a certain age. I calmed down at bit at 5, then really calmed down at 7. However, I can still outdo the Charlie any day, and I'm eight years his senior.
