I'm Proud

Anne on Breeds - Fri, June 27 2008

I just wanted to share a quick story about friends of ours. We got a call yesterday asking if they could borrow our crate (we don't use it anymore). It turns out, their neighbor was keeping a pit mix puppy on a chain outside all the time (day and night) and our friends could see that the dog was miserable and the chain was causing injury to its neck.

They went over and asked the guy if they could have the dog, since it seemed he didn't really want it. The guy said yes, but said he would SELL it for $150.00!!!! I would have been furious but my friends just paid the money and took the puppy home.

Anyway, they already have two dogs, 1 cat AND a new baby, but they made room in their family for a dog that clealy needed saving.

Just shows that there are a lot of good people out there (to balance the bad)

That's wonderful! Bless their hearts.

Whenever I hear about someone having problems with a person keeping a chained dog I send them to www.dogsdeservebetter.com. But being able to remove the dog from the situation right away is so much better for the dog! I just hope that stupid guy doesn't go out and get another dog to treat that way.

That's great! Hoorah for your friends. It's remarkable that they were willing to pay for the puppy. Their neighbor is a turd.

Honestly I am surprised the guy sold them the dog. Usually these people in my opinion don't think anything is wrong and have no intention to let someone take the dog. maybe he needed the money

I'm so glad that worked out. I know the people at FIDO deal with this constantly, trying to get people to understand that dogs don't do well chained up 24/7.

I wish more people were also educated on the animal laws in Marion County...Did you know it is unlawful to chain a dog outside unattended if it is not spay or nuetered? Also, a dog can't be chained between the hours 11 pm - 6 am. The dog must have shelter if chained. If more people were aware, maybe more people would report the violators. If you are interested in the laws check out the municiple code section 531-401
