Do Dogs build nests?

Baby on Behavior - Fri, June 27 2008

My Aunt's dog keeps bringing stuff in from outside and hiding it behind the couch. My Aunt has to keep pulling the couch out to clean. She keeps finding sticks, leaves, pieces of mulch piled up back there that Lily has brought in. Lily must think these are treasures. Lily is a jack-chi. Part jack russell, part chiuahua and has been spayed. She hides her treats in the couch cusions and her love of nature under the couch. What's up with that??

pshaw.. that's her inner jackie coming out. We're resource guarders and those treasures must be important to her so she wants to keep them in her favorite places. I NEVER go outside, go to bed, get in the car, etc without taking my ball wtih me because that's my most valued possession (well, next to Mom). And I guard my treats / hide them around the house too.

Wow! This is really something to hear. Mom's second choice for a dog was a Jack Russell. I guess my thing with squirrels isn't as bad as she thought. She has never found a squirrel in bed with us.
Years ago Mildew, the cat, did bring a rabbit inside and it caused lots of problems.

I don't bring things in, but I do build nests. Every rug and/or blanket in this house is shaped into my "nest". I get them just right, and then mama comes and fixes them. It's a little game we are playing. Mama doesn't think it's that much fun, though.

That si too funny. I am always taking my ball and/or bone with us on walks, but I tend to drop it halfway and then look at mama like, "Where's my ball?" LOL

If I bring something in from outside, it's pretty important to me. Now, I'm not a stasher, like Ojo or Lily but if I bring it in it's MINE and the others had better leave it alone. Mom doesn't let me keep it in the house real long. She doesn't like me being all snarfy, or something.

Um..."snarfy" isn't what you are. You turn into demon dog. Pffft, snarfy....

I have to smush up my blankets into a nest. Mama can always tell when I've been sleeping in the bed during the day. Little Basset shaped cubbie in the covers.

Me too! here lately she's beginning to wonder if I'm making her into a nest...when I come to bed I move her around so that she's on her side and her legs are around me.

Of course, we're nesters!! I must dig and prod and dig some more - sometimes really fast if it's on a smooth pillowcase - to get my bed just right before I will lay down. (Don't tell Mom, but I made a little hole on the top of the couch cushion for nesting up my little sleeping place...) You know, now that I think of it, seems like I should have a servant to do that for me......I must ponder on this. xoxo LCC, Queen Mum

I always take my bones and or balls to bed. I also spend a great deal of time rearranging the covers!

My mom keeps asking me what I'm doing when I scratch my doggy beds. So she'll take my beds outside and shake them real good and then give 'em a good vaccuum. Then she re-fluffs them and I head straight for the bed. I can't resist a freshly fluffed bed.

Jack is notorious nester in the house. Many circles are walked and moving of bed stuffing before it is to his liking enough to lay down. And even then sometimes he'll pop right back up if it wasn't good enough. I thought it was the funniest thing when Jack had spent a good amount of time positioning only to have Calvin walk straight onto the bed and lay down. Jack settled for the space left over.

I may not dig but I am very good at cleaning up after myself, even the first night I came to this house I made sure all the bones were on my bed.

*~*blushing*~* When gramma came and stayed the night I left a bone for her on her bed. She then gave it to me, said she wanted me to have it. Silly grammma

I like to nest too, although I don't do it all the time. Just some times.

I'm a very infrequent nester.
