Ever Hurt Your Dog on Accident?

Petey on Grief - Tue, June 24 2008

Last Friday, I felt like such a horrible mom.

I was trying to lower the glass on my mom's back door so my dogs would not tear her screen. It was stuck and I was having a heck of a time. But when I finally got it to give, I slammed it on Petey's paw and then couldn't get it to go back up. I had no idea his paw was there as I was so focused on the door.

He yelped so loud, I felt awful. He managed to squeeze his paw out on his own without injury. Thankfully, he was just fine a minute later, but I was sure panicked.

Have you ever accidentally hurt your pet?

I was out working in the backyard and half forgot Titus was even outside. I ran back inside to grab something real quick, didn't realize that he was following me and slammed the door on his nose. Thankfully he had his big plush turkey in his mouth. So I hope that softened the blow a little. He yelped and gave me the "bad Mommie eyes" for about 15 minutes. I felt terrible.

I can't think of anytime that mom hurt me but I know I kinda hurt mom once. We were on our afternoon walk and I was pulling her as usual.
We were on a busy street and mom got distracted and tripped over the bad sidewalk. Tripping was one thing but since I was pulling her really hard, she fell and broke her hand. It was the hand that was holding the leash. Plus she needed stitches in her chin after hitting the sidewalk.
The town fixed the bad sidewalk.

I just did that to my mom a few weeks ago - she broke her wrist, but doesnt' have a cast, just a splint... i felt SOOOOO bad!!

When I was little, my mom slammed the tip of my tail in the trunk of her SUV. She and I both make sure I'm well away from the door now!!

I was sitting on the front porch earlier this week and T (as always) was under my feet. I got up and the chair rocked and got either his tail or his foot. I'm thinking it was his foot cause he hobbled for a few minutes. He was okay but he's a little bit of a drama queen when it comes to getting hurt. I'm sure we've all done something to accidently hurt a furkid but love and kisses fix anything.

With Zoe being so little and always under foot, I will occasionally catch her chin with my heel as I walk. I can hear her little teeth clink together. I always feel so bad!!

One time in the car (and before the safety belts from Mama Muttblood), Deuce was sitting on my lap while I was driving. He had his head out the window and I started to roll up the automatic window to what I thought was the back seat window. It was the front window that he was hanging out of and he started yelping and choking. There was no physical injury to Deuce, but I felt horrible and it still stays with me to this day. I'll never forget the look on his face or the sounds he was making. Horrible.
