My Morning Panic Attack

Stacy on Activities - Thu, June 19 2008

This morning I opened the bedroom and kitchen windows and put a fan in the kitchen window to bring some fresh air into the house. My bedroom window is right above my bed on the side of the house. The girls sometimes lay on the bed and sniff the air. I finished drying my hair and walked into the bedroom. There was Minnie at the window getting ready to jump out!! The screen had fallen out!! I'm not sure if she pushed it, but there was no damage to the screen so I think it was just loose and fell. My guess was that Beverly had already jumped out and was who-knows-where by now!! I grabbed Minnie and yelled for Beverly. Thank God Beverly came running from the front room like "What?"! I closed the bedroom door and got the screen put back in. From now on, I will definitely make sure not to open the window so wide if I'm not watching my girls!! I was shaking afterwards and had to catch my breath! I thought Bev was gone!

When T was little, I had the kitchen window open (no screen) and I went to the store real quick. I came back down the drive and T was sitting at the edge of the yard about as far as his tie out would let him go. He had jumped out the window. He couldn't have been more than 6 or 7 months old. Scared the crud out of me. I guess he thought that was as far as he could go in the yard. Glad both the gals were okay.

That's not a good way to start your morning. Ever since the thing with PJ (remember him?) getting out of the screend in window, I'm so paranoid about somone pushing it out. We have new windows and the screens are secure, but that won't stop them from scratching their way out. I never leave the windows open if we go somewhere. I'm sure glad Bev was safe int he other room. Did the fan fall out of the window?

I can sympathize! One day, my husband forgot to shut the windows when he left for work. I came home 3 hours later to find one of the screens pushed out and both our cats and the only non-crated dog sunning themselves on the patio out front. Talk about panic! Glad Bev and Minnie didn't get out and that everyone is safe and sound.

I had the fan in the kitchen window. They won't mess with it. I just had the bedroom window open with the screen in it.

Thank Dog that both your girls were inside and ok. With hoghead's bad knee he'd have to want something really bad to make it out one of our windows. The one good thing about having "a mean looking" dog is that we can leave our windows open all the time. Without A/C it's mandatory.

I'd be terrified! I'm beyond paranoid about window screens. We only leave two windows open very far at all. Both are pretty high up on the house, and I watch them closely!

I would'a freaked... esp if I thought Roo got out. That little thing would wander the planet. Ojo wouldn't do it.. she'd just sit on the bed with the look at that face. Glad your girls were safe!

I'm so glad they didn't get out and go roaming! O.C. pushed out our screen in the kitchen and it landed on our porch swing and ripped. So we have to re-screen it with that pet screen stuff. We'll see how that goes.

Batman would definitely push a screen out if he thought something outside was important, like a chipmunk. The cats seem OK though. When the dogs are outside, I leave the windows up so the cats can sit in the window sills. They love to do that. But, last night, Edgar was sitting in the kitchen window and Draco was outside. I heard this thump and Edgar came flying. Evidently, Draco saw Ed sitting in the window and jumped up at the window.

I had all my windows replaced one year and after the workers left I was missing a cat. I thought I had them secured, but people were coming and going. No on remembered the cat. 6 hours after the last worker left, still no cat. I tore the house up. I took the lining out of the couch and the bed. I looked in closets, in all my drawers, etc. I finally started putting up fliers. At midnight I was up making more fliers when the cat walked into the living room.

I would have SWORN she was not in the house. But, she was there all the time thank heavens.!
