Horrible Pet/Child accident

NosyRosie on Kids & Pets - Tue, June 17 2008

Found this story browsing our local news website. Not for the squeamish. A puppy mauled an infant's genitals. And it wasn't a Pit or other stereotyped "attack" dog, either.

There was one like that some time back although it was a Dachshund that time. I think neglect charges should be filed. She slept until 1 Pm with a 5 year old and an infant in the house? How could you not hear your baby screaming in pain during the attack? Sounds like someone that needs neither kids nor pets. I feel really sorry for that baby and the other little guy. I wonder if he tried to wake his mom up when the baby was screaming or if he had been told to not bother mommy. Poor puppy to have to be the one to suffer for her stupidity. I doubt that he was a vicious dog. We know dogs can be poo eaters and I'm sure there was plenty of poo in that diaper after 7 hours.

Sad....you know I think I remember a story almost exactly like this last year and the dog that did the "attacking" was a small dog, maybe a doxie mix. Goes to show what we all have been saying....even small dogs can go some serious damage to people. Poor baby.

Why was the infant within reach of the dog-- isn't there such a thing as a crib?? I feel sorry for the baby, sorry for his sibling and sorry for the dog. This mother should have neglect charges filed against her.

Yep, this happened last summer, I believe... I can't imagine leaving a baby NAKED within a dogs's reach anyway! Poor little guy will have to live with this for the rest of his life. The mother should have charges filed against her, that is just stupidity.

"No reason for us to believe any concern for neglect here." You've got two kids in the house and you sleep for 7 hours on a Saturday because you're tired from your paper route. Raises all kinds of red flags for me!

Yeah, that's frightening. If you're going to sleep and leave your young children on their own, put the dog in it's kennel or in a room with a closed door. Never leave pets with children unsupervised! DUH!!!!

You know, this woman is lucky that her infant son didn't bleed to death. This kid will need therapy when he grows up--and CPS? Where are they?

ALSO-- did they do a tox screen on the mother?? You cannot tell me that she was not under the influence of something-- even sleeping pills. I know that I can be a heavy sleeper for the first couple of hours but gee whiz this woman slept for 7 hours and heard nothing in that tiny apartment??? Come on, Ft Wayne police, wise up!

I agree. The report says the mother had the infant sleeping next to her...surely she would have heard something.

It's a crime NOT to investigate charges of neglect. Stuck on stupid.
