My Strange Little Girl

Tiffany on Behavior - Fri, June 13 2008

I have posted about Gracie several times. She's was six months old when we got her, so I think she had a hard life before we got her, I think that's why she is so cranky. But Gracie does not know how to purr. My mom and I was talking about it, and the only time she is ever in a loving mood is when we have to wake her up. She cries once, waves and gets up and follows us around. Grace doesn't like to be held at all, and we think that she doesn't know how to love. The other day, my mom picked her up, and Gracie actually reached her paws out for me to take her, and that was a first. The most she will let us hold her is for a minute, and that is to look out the door to watch the birds. I try to hold her but have no luck with her letting me. We are always giving her love and attention though but we think maybe she could be afraid that we are going to kick her out, like my cousin did to her. I feel sorry for her. All the other strays that we have taken in hasn't ever been like her, and we've taken some younger and older than her.

Well, poor Gracie : ( Tell her she is missing out on being loved! Just keep petting her, even if you aren't holding her while you do it. Try playing with her too. Just use some string to see if she enjoys chasing it. Every cat loves that. And I'm sure in good time, she will adjust to her new home.

My cat being such a momma's boy took about a year before he could let my husband love him and hold him without hissing and clawing. Keep it up and most likely she will continue to come around.
