Strange Message Request

Petey on Behavior - Thu, June 12 2008

I am not trying to sound rude, but I just checked my account messages and I had two emails asking me if, by chance, I wanted to sell my Puggle.

I said never in a million years. Sure, my dogs are bad at times, but they are mine and I love them despite their quirks. Heck, we all have them.

But this email request bothered me on a few levels:

- What would give the impression I would want to sell my dogs?

- Why would you ask someone on this site if they were selling their dog, if it weren't advertised?

- Why wouldn't this person check the Humane Society of Petfinder first. I know someone who got a Puggle from HSI.

- This person did not have any information on their profile except a name and a city.

Has anyone else gotten such a message? Maybe I am overly sensitive, but the nerve! Maybe it's just a kid who does not know better.

I would report them to the fine folks at IndyPaws. That really bugs my mommy, next thing you know a pet theft ring will be stalking us on IndyPaws! Bowser Wowser

That's kind of strange. It will be interesting to see if anyone else, especially other puggles on the site, got that same message. Maybe the person doesn't realize what this site is for.

That's a weird message.. Now I'm going to get paranoid that someone is looking at our site for bad reasons.

I'd be bothered, too. There was a post last week about someone trying to get rid of their Puggle puppy...and the shelters are full of them. I'd do what others suggest; report them.

I am usually suspicious but it could be an honest mistake. Remember how when you clicked on Pets on Indystar, it took you to this site? I always thought that was a bad idea because it made it seem like this was a site to get rid of your pets. I'm not sure if it's still like that but maybe that was the impression that they got.
