What must a guy do?

Star Hunter on Behavior - Thu, June 12 2008

When we were walking Monday night, I got attacked by this little Chi. He had bothered us many times last year but, he never attacked. Mom went to the house and said he was getting out under the fence in back. He had not bothered us this year until Monday night. Mom saw him coming down the front drive and unleashed me to have a fighting chance. He really cleaned up on me. Bitting at me and everything. I did not fight though. Was I wrong? I am alot bigger than he is. Should I have taught him a lesson? Finally, a little girl picked him up but, she let him go again. Same thing all over. Mom told the girl to put the dog in the house. If this happens one more time, mom is going to the house and threaten to report this. She loves animals but, she loves me best. She thinks they may take the threat seriously.

poor star, mom said she would have reported it anyway, just because you have issues anyway. i think that you were the better man and turned the other cheek. mom said shes proud of you.

What a rough evening. Me, personally, I wouldn't have stood for that behavior at all. Mom said you did the right thing (whatever). I know its a neighbor, but I really think my mom would report the event. I know its a really small dog, but they can do quite a bit of damage. What if you had been a minpin or something?

We have a similar terrorizer in the neighborhood. When we are going for walks, there is this little chi mix dog that starts going nuts all the time. It's never gotten loose and came after us, but I bet he would if he could. Must be the napoleon syndrome.

I've had some similar experiences with a couple little dogs. Once, I had a poor paw (since healed) and was tripoding it when a little dog came up (it's Dad or Mom just let it out! No leash or anything!) and started barking at me like all sorts of crazy. Dad and I were just ignoring it and walking away. He must have had what Dad calls the Napolean complex, though. Because he decided it would be a good idea to get underneath me and start nipping at EVERYTHING. Dad tried to chase him away but he kept coming back. Dad kept looking for the other dog's Mom or Dad, but couldn't find them. Eventually he told me I could give him a scare, so I gave him a good growl and snarl and he just took off running down the sidewalk. I've seen him walking around quite a bit (with his Dad and on a leash). I guess I taught them a lesson!
