Pit friendly housing

Lynn on Activities - Wed, June 11 2008

I'm sorry, I know this issue has been touched on several times but had little luck finding the previous posts. My current housing situation is no longer working and I'm not ready to try and buy a home. I think I'm going to have more luck looking for a home to rent rather than looking for an apartment. My zoo includes Titus, my hoghead pit, Jordan and Izzy. Jordan and Izzy aren't my problem it's Titus. Most landlords won't even hear of giving a pit a chance. I don't have a preference on what side of town. I just need to be in a decent neighborhood. I don't want to have to start carrying a gun to feel safe coming and going from work at night. Titus does have positive pet references. He's never eaten thru a door or dug up the carpeting, etc.

If I had money to invest, I'd build an apartment complex exclusively for people with pets. It would have a pet daycare, massage parlor for owners and pets, boutique and bakery. I could go on and on!! Who wouldn't want to live there?? I wish I had some good advice for you, but I don't know anywhere. I would be living in an apartment, spending a lot less money and dealing with less stress if it weren't for my dogs. They're really the only reason I bought a house. It's really sad there aren't good options for pet owners other than owning a home.

Chesapeake Bay and Bay Head (I think that's the names...) on the west side allow pits, or at least they USED to. I've seen several there in the past. Though I don't know if the policies have changed, and I'm a bit leery of the Chesapeake management anymore... they used to maintain the facilities really well, but seem to have gone downhill the past year or two.

Have you thought about contacting someone at one of the bully groups? I'm sure they have suggestions.

I would also recommend contacting Indy Pit Crew and Casa Del Toro. They seem to be on top of stuff like this.
