I've run a full diagnostic on my PC but no problems there...I've deleted all cookies and browsing history to no avail. There is no rhyme or reason as to what posts - it happens randomly. Sounds like an error in the code or script running the site to me. I supplied the IE version info / OS info to Chris Z (think he's tech support for IP) but nothing as of yet. Out of curiosity Rhonda, what version of IE do you use??
I still lose posts and bounce between my two profiles. It's hard to post or comment because I never know if it will go through or who it will be under. I've emailed them several times with no response recently. I did get a nice response from Braden a couple of weeks ago but apparently everything still isn't resolved.
I honestly don't know...I usually use my work laptop. I'll have to ask the IT dept., but I'm fairly certain it was the newest version when I got the computer 2 years ago.
This post will get eaten, too, but I'll try anyway. I've been getting the boot everytime I try to comment. I guess it's been about 2 weeks or so of constant problems for me. I've been getting Internal Server Error, Fatal Error (can't tell you how much that one freaked me out), Something Went Wrong, and I saw a new one yesterday, but can't remember the message. AAAAaaaaargh! Very frustrating.
Hi guys. I do want to apologize for the problems this site has had. I have sent several emails recently to the IndyStar technical groups and included this post in the latest one since it details many of the problems we are facing. I am hoping the will be able to identify the problems and fix them soon. If anyone else is experiencing different problems please list them here so this technical group can have complete information. I just want to thank everyone for their patience and please bear with us.
First, I want to say I understand everyone's frustration and I definitely can identify with your feelings. It's very irritating to have to deal with a web site with such stability problems -- I've been in the same situation as all of you before.
To be clear, the site manager/coordinator -- neither Kathi nor Amanda -- has absolutely nothing to do with the technical maintenance of the site or the servers, so please don't jump on any of the site staff about it. All that will do is create an uncomfortable situation that will make it more difficult to get things resolved. The most they can do is pass on *specific* problems that you, the users, are having, and unless the technical staff is able to reproduce the problem it can be extraordinarily difficult to track something down. Which is a way of saying that it is very helpful when you have a problem that you provide
1) a link to the specific page the problem occurred on,
2) your exact browser and version, and
3) the exact error message and behavior of the site when the problem occurred. Just saying "I tried to post and it didn't work" doesn't give developers much to go on.
There have been a lot of server issues lately, all of which have been out of not only the site coordinator's control but the development team's control as well. There are too many factors to go into detail here, but suffice to say that they do affect all IndyStar sites in some way. Because of the unique way IndyPaws is built, however, it is often more noticeable here than other sites. Upgrading and fixing the servers is *definitely* a long-term and ongoing project that the IT staff at the Star are currently involved in. There are a lot of things that need to be changed -- it's not as simple as it may sound, unfortunately. However, I just wanted to let you all know that it getting those fixed is a major concern for everyone right now, and they're working on it.
Once again, I'm sorry for the problems you've all been experiencing on the site. I invite everyone to send *technical* problems (still contact Amanda for general questions and non-critical problems) to me. Please email as many details as you possibly can -- links, behaviors, error messages, etc -- to matthew.rogers@indystar.com. I'm part of the Star's development team, and I'll do my best to see that the error is addressed. Please understand that, like many companies right now, our IT staff can be quite busy and is sometimes stretched a little thin, and the more details you can provide about the problem will help us get to the bottom of it that much faster.
Thank you all for your understanding, and I hope we can keep this a fun and vibrant community for animal lovers all over Indy.
(P.S. Those of you who have his address, please don't email Braden anymore, he is no longer with the Star.)
Thank you Matt for the update. Glad to know that somebody is looking into all of the issues. If you need anymore details from me or need links to the posts that "crash" just let me know.
