Bunny, Mom's cat was born feral. My Mom used to work at a factory out in Greenfield right along I-70. She saw a feral mom cat and her kittens while on lunch one day. Then she overheard management at the factory talking about poisoning them all. Right then she knew she had to try and save as many of them as possible. Mom caught Bunny, 6 weeks old, completely feral. Once home we had a heck of a time getting her used to people and Jasmine, Erin's kitty. I held her for about the first 12 hrs after her arrival wrapped up in a towel. Now she's a spoiled, loved member of our family. Her name came from her having giant ears as a kitten and her habit of hopping all over the place.
We took in a very undersocialized, semi-aggressive dog named Alex when we lived in rural Brown County. We had 4 other dogs at the time. He never got snarly with dogs, but did with people at times. When we moved back to the city we had to give him to some people who lived out in the country. I would probably do it again.
Luna is more feral than we first thought, or maybe just more dominant. She still tries to take food out of our mouths when we are eating, and is sometimes aggressive with the other cats. I'm sure we would bring her in if we had it to do all over again.
I adopted Minnie in July of last year. My stepson had moved in in March with his dog and things were just getting settled from that. Minnie is a rambunctious ball of energy, and I thought I would lose my mind the first week. The other two dogs growled at her. She had seperation anxiety. Beverly was clearly not happy. I found out Minnie had to have $1000 eye surgery. I don't know what it was about her, but from the moment I saw her I just loved her. I couldn't quit thinking about that poor little pit mix that no one was adopting. I tried to find others to adopt her (even made a post on IndyPaws), but finally I bit the bullet and brought her home. Yes, I would it again. I love my little golden piglet! :)
My mother in law twice has taken stray cats into her house. The first one really was a wild one, but she took her time and just fed him and he eventually hung around. The other was a kitten and she took a while to let people near her despit being young and fed and all. She eventually had to be rehoused with a relative who had another cat because she would not settle down as an only cat in a dog household
I have two ferals that I took in. Pandora was an older cat and was fine with the two dogs that I had at the time. They were used to cats and Pandora pretty much wanted to be left alone.
Last year, I ended up with a stray 4 month-old kitten (Louis) and an 11-week old feral kitten (Izzy). My household had been pretty stable for years and the two kittens, especially Izzy, caused quite a commotion in the house.
A year later and I'm proud to say things have calmed down tremendously. Izzy is still a little on the wild side. He doesn't like to be groomed, held or confined in any capacity and he will still hiss and run if he's spooked, but overall the household is getting along well.
It's kind of funny, Izzy, Louis and Squirt (a chihuahua) will play and groom each other. The older pets, Pandora and Finian (a papillon) really don't care to join in the antics and try to stay out of their way.
Would I do it again? YES! For as much trouble and damage as the two kittens brought with them, they've also brought hours of laughter.
