I am so frustrated

Susan on Grief - Fri, May 30 2008

Okay, time to vent.
I went to the vet today and there was a loose dog in the street right outside. Another lady and I caught the dog and I took it into the vet. Turns out the dog was abandoned from the apt complex next door. The apt complex was going to call the shelter to come get the dog. Apparently, they never called. I called the animal shelter and offered to put my name in as a "Gaurdian Angel" for the dog in case it didn't get adopted. Unfortunately, the shelter dude says they don't offer this b/c its "too unweildly." WHAT?? They used to do it - when I got Ellie a few years back they offered it. I said "so, you mean to tell me you'd rather kill a dog than keep records of someone who would take it?" He said "I don't want to get in a philosophical conversation with you." I could have wrung his neck. I told him I was very annoyed, they are supposed to be the animal shelter and this poor dog... oh, now I'm crying. I'm so sad at the way people treat animals and then these shelters can be soooooo freaking stupid!!! I could go on and on, and I am so sad for this little dog - the critters are so innocent, they don't deserve to be treated like this. And neither do the sweet children and elderly who are abused and neglected. Humans are so messed up.
Thanks for listening.

Keep checking the shelter on her progress. I would get her out as soon as I heard her time was short if that should happen. Puppy prayers she is adopted out soon.

Well, now I've spoken with the vet, the shelter finally picked up the dog. I pressed them about its behavior and they said it might not last long at the shelter b/c it was snappy and growling. This dog is scared and traumatized, now its going to the shelter to most likely be euthanized. What can I do? I live in Bloomington and work in Indy and already have two dogs. Even if I did take her, I couldn't give her the time, training and attention she needs. She's a little black jack russell mix and I'm afraid Ellie would hurt her or she would hurt Jed. Ugh.

I understand. The same thing happened to me when I first moved to Indianapolis and lived in an apartment where I was not allowed to have pets. I found two dogs on 465 and pulled over to put them in my car. I didn't know where to take them so I took them to the Humane Society. I was naive. I told them that I would find a way to take them, foster them if they didn't find the owners. They said they couldn't contact me - and hoped that I understood that they could face euthanasia. I was bawling when I left...I went to work and made a ton of flyers and plastered them all over the neighborhood. The whole scenario still brings me to tears... I had no idea what to do and was already two hoours late to work...

This would not happen if we adopted the No Kill philosophy. If you are not familiar with what needs to be accomplished and how, visit www.movetoact.org

Did you call Indianapolis Animal Care and Control or the Humane Society of Indianapolis? Or where you somewhere else? I'm just curious.

I understand your frustration. I get that way all the time. What the h*ll is wrong with people, and why do some people have no compassion??

Its the Bloomington Animal Shelter.

Thank you all for your understanding. It doesn't look good for the little black dog, please join me in praying for her survival and adoption.
