Dog Treat Warning - URGENT!

Ariane on Health - Tue, May 20 2008

Everyone—PLEASE look at this and be certain you are not purchasing not only this brand of treat, but as a general and APPROPRIATE safeguard DO NOT purchase ANY pet products that are made in CHINA. EVERY SINGLE problem has come from China —be that the plastic toys, melamine tainted ingredients in pet food and NOW THIS. If you have ANY of the brand “SMOKEHOUSE CHICKEN FILLET TREATS” Throw them away ASAP! The snopes link below verifies this as TRUE and also provides a full size picture of the Smoke house chicken treats which are indeed labeled ALL NATURAL.

Sad but true that we have to be so vigilant.I can vouch for all the Petlane treats being completely manufactured in the US with US grown ingredients. The only exception is the Bully/Moo products that are produced in Brazil using free-range cattle. Be sure to read your labels of all food and treats.

Luckily, I don't have these. I do need to be more careful about reading the labels on my treats. I'm so anal about the dog food they eat, but sometimes I don't even think about the treats. Thanks for the info and the reminder!!

The only treats I feed are made by Rich and Chris at For the Love of Dogs in Irvington, Canidae treats, and doggie crack, er, I mean, These Salmon Strips from Plato Pet Treats, which are made here in Indiana. ;o)

Thanks for the post Ariane. I'll have to really make sure to start reading the fine print on treat bags. I did actually buy a small bag a few months ago and thank goodness my furkids are fine.

We have to be really picky about our treats due to everyone's allergies. We're down to about 2 or 3 kinds we can purchase - all US made. I appreciate the heads up, though. It never hurts to get the word out.

I bake most of their treats myself but Ted's Feed Store carries tons of excellent brands that are a lot cheaper than everywhere else. Mostly everything is grain free and low carbs and high in protein. Mason is really picky so I had to hunt down some ones that he likes.

I think the Smokehouse Chicken things are what gave all three of mine diarhea a couple of weeks ago. We have since thrown them out because they smelled so bad....I will now be reading EVERY label, instead of some of them.

Anyone hear anything bad about cat treats especially? Just wondering for my babies.

I've also heard that there has been a problem with Innova biscuits . . . the 20# boxes of the large dog treats, expiration date 12/08. If you have a box of those treats, please contact your retailer or the Natura company before you feed your dog any more of these.

Thanks, Ariane. That's why I started making my own.
