Anybody else have allergies???

Andy on Health - Tue, May 20 2008

This time of year is the pits for me because with all the flowers in full bloom, my allergies are in full effect. It makes me sneeze like 5 times in a row and my eyes get all watery. I will probably have to go to the vet soon for my yearly 'cortisone' shot, whatever that is. In the meantime, Mom has been giving me Benadryl capsules disguised in peanut butter. Gotta love that! But I will tell you what I don't love and that's ALLERGIES.

Ragweed season is just around the corner. I have to take an antihistamine from the vet starting in July. I get an itchy tummy and paws. Some years I've ended up with a staph infection and on antibiotics AND a steroid shot which makes me pee in the house. If I get itchy before that, I get benedryl.

Welcome to my club! I WAS the reigning president for many, many months but since Atopica has entered my world, my allergies have taken a back seat. Dust bunnies are my biggest culprits followed by Quaken Aspen trees. Ah, the beloved peanut butter.... I still get my stinky Atopica in those.

When mom has a sinus pressure headache, my glands are usually swollen so I get a pill. That is about it. Mom is soooo thankful that I don't have allergies. When I was eating lamb and rice, I itched alittle bit. Now I'm eating duck and oatmeal and no itching at all....plus I'm not gasy anymore. What ever that means.

I get the sneezes too...usually a little Benadryl will do it for me, but sometimes the vet has to put me on meds. So far so good this year...

Yep, sneezy, sneezy. I get my Bennies in hot dogs. Sometimes I get a little rash on my belly but normally just sneezes.

I'm doing a lot better this year. We have our own yard this year and Mom's trying not to have it chemically treated. That stuff makes me chew my paws and go nutso! We're trying organic lawn care. :-)

I can't have corn, fleas, or some plant unidentified in the fall. One fall, I pulled all of the fur out of my pads! Charlie can't have wheat, but we don't know of any other allergies besides that.

I HATE allergies!! I have to get a shot once a week and a bath about every 10 days for mine. I had been doing wonderful up until the last week. Now, I am scratching and biting my legs. I have a couple sores on my front legs. Mom started me on Benadryl yesterday, so hopefully that will help. Hang in there, Andy!! We'll get through it!
