Vet Question

Megan on Health - Fri, May 16 2008

Does anyone know if there is a law against returning an unopened item to your vet.

My Vet, sold me a ton of items for my male cat who has a urinary tract infection. I paid for all of it last night but after researching the items I realized I didnt need them all right now

I wanted to take back two of the items (potassium/cranberry capsules and this bottle of ArthriXXX) and the Vet Tech said it was against the law for the Vet to accept anything back as a return once it has been purchased.

I am not sure I believe them so I was hoping another Vet out there could help me out with some information.

Thanks
Megan

Uh, maybe I'm mixing up my facts, but I think when our dog died, my parents had a lot of unused meds (joint supplments, that clomapril or whatever it is called, calming medicine, etc.) that they never had a chance to use *sad* and i'm fairly certain that the vet said you could return unused, un opened meds and they would dispose of the rest.

but maybe i'm mistaken.

No, my vet will take back stuff as long as it's not opened. I think they just don't want to give you any money back.

Technically speaking vets are bound by the same prescription laws that human pharmacies are, however, most will return unopened unused items. I would suggest asking to speak with the Veterinarian. A few of those items are neutriceuticals that should be able to be returned. Every clinic has their own policies and if they are following the letter of the law then they cannot take the drugs back.
