Parkside Animal Hospital- Fishers

Natalie on Health - Thu, May 15 2008

I have taken my two cats to this vet and so far no problems. I now have a 3 month old golden retriever and wanted to know how people's expierence was with dogs at this place.

Honey needs to see a vet soon and this place offers a $205 puppy package. this is 3 visits with shots and I even think spaying...does this sound like a good deal.

Any other recommendations are surely welcome.

If it includes the spay, it's a good deal. Average spay costs now are about $250 for a 40lb dog. Some go up to $400 and some are as low as $25-$40 at the low cost clinics...I'd say that if the spay is included, it's a great deal!

Another option - We took Nigel to Broad Ripple Animal Clinic. We did the responsible pet partnership, which was 3 visits for $35 each. the visits were with Nigel and a behaviorist and it was basically an hour of private training. We worked on basic commands, i learned how to brush his teeth and trim his nails and we got the neuter for "free" or i guess the neuter and 3 classes for $105.00. The neuter also included pain meds if he needed them. I was a real fan of the program. For shots we went to the low cost clinic they put on at Pet Supplies Plus.

I love that BRAC is doing that! What a great program b/c they are very pricy (but good!) otherwise. They are very up to date on current research and are putting their clients on individualized vaccination protocols, rather than the every year unecessary thing.

I am such a huge fan of the program and the practice - what a great way to help people who may be first time dog owners or even who haven't had a puppy in a while! I agree, they ARE expensive, but everyone there is so wonderful. When my parents German Shepherd died, the doctor sent the most wonderful letter and called a week later just to see if my mom was doing OK. If we still lived in Broad Ripple, I'd still go there although I love the downtown vet :) What was especially great was the behaviorist we met with (Blythe) was always available on email and was so great about taking the time to take my calls/emails (Nigel had quite the biting problem for a while and it was a painful time for my husband and I!!)

That is a tremendous program! We do live very near Broad Ripple and have gone to our old vet forever, but I've never felt like he cared about anything but the basics. I will switch to BRAC if they are that good!

Alena is right - they are pricey, but worth it and love all over the animals! I feel like they do really care and they are not pushy.. they give you a bunch of options, let you know the pros and cons and let you decide what to do. Like I said, when Bailey (our GSD) died, her vet sent us the most heartfelt card, called my mom later and sent a heart shaped plaster of her pawprint :) it sort of makes me cry just thinking about it...

The are also really progressive with alternative medicine, nutritional therapy, acupuncture etc.. I think they take a really holistic approach to things.

I absolutely love Parkside Animal Hospital!! I've taken 3 dogs there over the years, they are kind, compassionate, never seem to try to get you to pay for more than you need. It doesn't matter which doctor you get, Dr Havens and Dr Johnson are both wonderful!! I started going there when I lived in Fishers, but have moved to Zionsville... and still make the trip over there for my Murray! He loves both docs, too!!
