Tuxedo Pansy

Brad on Breeds - Wed, May 14 2008

Forgot to post this! Too funny to forget. Frequent readers of my posts would know that I went home for a graduation party this past weekend. During such event, everyone was outside. Now please keep in mind that "outside" is country of about five acres. I was sitting on the porch and of course inside the house at the screen door was Boomer meowing like crazy because I assume he wanted to partake in the festivities. Of course, after about twenty minutes he stopped and was simply sitting there enjoying the view of everyone chit chatting. Meanwhile, an outdoor cat (BTW: I know this probably goes against some people out there, but we do have outdoor cats solely for the purpose of fielding all the mice.) making his rounds of the porch and suddenly turned a corner to meet Boomer behind the screen door. This particular outdoor cat went and sniffed Boomer out in the friendliness that any cat can offer and Boomer replies with a, "HHHHHIIIIISSSSSSS GRRRRRRRR HIIIISSSSSSS" The cat gets up, Boomer hisses once more, and then the outdoor cat hisses. Boomer, I'm ashamed to say, ran and hid. He didn't stand up for himself or his territory. One hiss from the outdoor cat and Boomer couldn't move fast enough. I laughed so hard. I knew no harm could come from the encounter since an entire door separated them, but the fact that Boomer was dressed as a davenier manly-man and then hides with one little hiss of an outdoor cat made me laugh. I guess I have a tuxedo pansy as a son, but I guess that's ok. Too comical!

Congratulations on graduation and your big move. I can clearly picture this all going down. Jordan, mister 20lbs of cat that all the small dogs in my family are scared of, is terrified of Izzy. Little 6.5lb Izzy. We can always tell where Jordan is in the house based on his howling dissapproval of Izzy trying to play with him.

lol, maybe Boomer was just patroling the rest of the house making sure there was no other way in that the outdoor cat could come through?

Congratulations on graduating, Brad!! This story cracked me up. Boomer was trying to be tough at first!

Congratulations on graduating!! I had a great college exerience but don't want to do it again! One degree is enough for me. Boomer did exactly what Oreo did when an outside cat came up on our window sill. Oreo ran like the wind!! Cookie stayed his ground, but Oreo took off. Must be a tuxedo cat thing!

Charlie's my tough guy... he'll not only hold his ground, but he'll also growl, hiss, perform all the typical territorial male-cat posturing and even lunge at the window when there's a new "intruder". Once the intruder's been by several times though, Charlie will ignore it. This why I adopted only female cats at first. He still doesn't really like Cyrus (only tolerates him), but is OK with Alvin since Alvin was only a kitten when he arrived. The rest of the hairballs just kind of stare at the cats outside and don't do anything.

lol, least you don't have a 30 lb beagle that's afraid of the dark (we have to have the kitchen light on for him to eat), lightening bugs, flashlights, etc...

Brad, congrats on the graduation! yeah you! And we do allow Puma outside to explore sometimes during the day; our neighbors have told me what a kick they get out of watching him pounce at invisible things in the grass; he truly looks like a wild cat.

My friend Boomer clearly did not want to soil his immaculate Tuxedo with the intruder's blood. He probably went to change into his boxing gloves and trunks. Either that or he was just trying to be a gentleman so the outdoor creature did not misinterpret him and try to start something. I think he used good judgement. Be a lover, not a fighter, Boomer. Boomer--don't feel bad. My 20 pound male cat is scared of everything! He even hid behind my 8 pound female cat recently when we had the pest control man over spraying for bugs. It was hilarious to see this big black cat peeking out from behind my tiny little girl cat!

Congratulations, Brad. What an hilarious story. Boomer the cat, Mr. not-so-tough guy after all. So to fight another day?
