That is precisely why I will never return to the barkpark. Too many stupid people--and the park system doesn't help much either. They will claim that it's up to the owners to settle a dispute unless you actually can get the person's name (and who's gonna give you that info when they know you're gonna report them and get them kicked out of the park?). Good luck with reporting the dog- give them as much information as you can---
Cosmo, sorry you were attacked. Definitely report the owner - there is no excuse for allowing your dog to attack other dogs in the park. It's supposed to be a fun place for us doggies!!!! If no one reports her and her dog then it makes the bark park a miserable place for all of us who are well behaved. Please complain and see if you can't get other owners to complain as well.
I am glad you are reporting the dog. i probably would have been kicked out of the park because knowing me i would have confronted the lady. i would have followed and probably lost my temper. there was an incident in my mothers back yard a few months ago when maraka and gizmo were out playing and they just started barking. i was across the street with a neighbor and all of the sudden the man that lives next door to my mother came barraling across the yard with a five gallon pickle bucket attempting to throw it at the two of them. needless to say i ran across the street and confronted the man and told him if he did it again i would call the cops on him. i really dislike people who have no regard for life either human or animal
I'm with Jen. I would have started a discussion with the other dog's owner and probably gotten into it pretty good. I don't take Deuce to the bark park anymore because of problems like this. I think the best you can do is report it and maybe the park will revoke the other owner's pass. I'm glad you're all okay.
Stupid people ruin it for all the responsible ones. This is also why we need more "little dog" dog parks. I have to drive all the way to Fishers or go to Broadripple for Bark Tutor to get my tiny dogs out. Little dogs need socialization too but those type of dogs can kill them in one swoop! Jude is usually OK at the parks--she's just big enough and is laid back around other dogs. What park was this??
What's really sad is that if Cosmo had in turn gotten into a fight, it would have very likely turned into "oh, it's a pit bull." I went to Club Canine in Carmel for Yappy Hour (first and third Fridays) and I liked it because the owner is there and if there is a problem she asks the dog and owner to leave.
What kind of dog jumped Cosmos?
Poor Cosmo. I can't believe that idiot woman would just walk away and not try to do anything with her dog. Mom and dad doesn't let me go to bark parks anymore because there was an incident that happened. I play nice with other dogs but since I'm so big I have a hard time stopping. Last summer us bigger dogs were playing chase and alittle dog ran with us and it stopped short in front of me and I ran over it. It squealed and it's owner got mad and threw a doggy brush at me and hit me. It was not injured but dad took me out of there and we haven't returned. Another incident happened when I was younger around 7-8 months old I was attacked by a great pyr. I guess he didn't want to play and being a puppy I was all in his face and he got mad and bit me a few times. To this day I don't like great pyr.s too much.
All of that just makes me so mad! We go to BR bark park because Nigel LOVES playing with dogs, and it is a great way for him to expend puppy energy, but I do try to go in off hours when it is less crowded (i've started going around 9 or 10am on saturdays and it seems to be a pretty good group) but whenever i'm there i watch him like a hawk! 1. he plays rough and i don't want him to scare/accidentally hurt the smaller dogs 2. i fell like some people let there dogs out and just zone out! he has fun, but it is definitely not a relaxing time for me - not only am I watching/policing my own dog, but all the others out there!
Cosmo, that's terrible! We're trying to get a park started in Shelbyville and this is exactly the stuff we are trying to overcome. You should most difinetly report this woman and her dog. She has no right to be at the park. After all these place are prevlages-not rights. Those of you who work with dogs as a profession and those who don't...what do you think would make these situations better? Better monitoring, stricter regulations, easier ways to report incidents...?
Um, well, um. . .I am guilty of getting into bark park skirmishes over my ball. My mama really tries to avoid it, and she never walks away if I get into a fight. She always apologizes and makes over the other dog, and most of the time the owners of the other dogs say their dogs have problems sharing and they were probably at fault, too. She tries to take me to a less populated part of the park, and she is working with me on being nice when I have my ball, but, sometimes, other dogs push the issue with my ball, and we get into fights. She's tried not taking a ball in, but I always find one. We're not going to stop going, but mama does watch me, and we do try to go during off hours. Let's just remember that we are, after all, dogs and sometimes we behave unpredictably. I don't think all owners, whose dogs get into skirmishes, are negligent. Just a little food for thought. . .
This happened at Beech Grove dog park. Dad was livid and started to tell the lady off but Mom said to quit. We haven't ever had a bad experience there and we will continue to go because Mommy doesn't want to ruin our fun. We don't take toys in the park either because a lot of dogs have toy aggression and if Mom or Dad finds one they toss it outside the park. Mommy is currently talking to her boss about having small dog play groups at my daycare. That would be great but Mommy says only Strudel could go! Darn! And no not all dogs that get into scraps are bad but this dog has done it before. The dogs name was Ezra and it was some kind of big, fluffy mutt. It had light orange fur and looked like some kind of chow/shepherd mix. I didn't say this before but I was just fine but Mason has a good tooth scratch on his neck and Daddy got bit on the side of his face. We didn't notice until we started walking home that he was bleeding. It wasn't that bad though so Mommy just cleaned them up when we got home.
That's really scary because we go there with Grandpa and he couldn't protect us if a big dog decided to attack us. That woman should NOT be allowed back in there. I'm going to have mom contact some people about it too. she can't risk Grandpa taking us and all of us(including Gramps) getting attacked. I'm a brat so Grandpa keeps me on the bench mostly when other dogs are around. I don't like big dogs that much so he won't let me play. We mostly go when it's empty but Pablo would like to have some friends to play with. What a crazy lady.
This is just a random thought you know what you should do. All ya'll who don't like going to the dog parks and letting your dogs play with other dogs you should get a bunch of people from indypaws that you can trust, ones you do your "dog play dates" with and go to a park (not a dog park just a park) and have a big dog walk. That way your not at a dog park where who knows what kinda dogs are there but your with people who love their animals and want the best for them!
I don't know just a random thought.
You're right Cosmo, not all dogs that get into scraps are bad dogs. But if the OWNER did NOTHING to stop him once he attacked, then I think they should be banned from the park. We have to watch when we go to the creek becuase the stupid people that live near there let their 3 dogs run loose. They have tried to attack Maize and I before but luckily dad knows how to deal with aggressive dogs in a pack. Mom was a wreck, which probably didn't help the situation....
Colton - how would your dad deal with agressive dogs in a pack like that? We live in the city, so its not a huge issue, but it is always good to know information just in case.
Dad always carries a stick now, but his best defense is that he has a very mean and believable growl. The first time those dogs came up to us we we just getting out of the car, mom freaked, dad yelled but they didn't back off. So dad went to their level and stood up tall, looked the "leader" right in the eyes and growled at him. Amazingly they backed off and went away. LET ME CAUTION EVERYONE THAT THIS IS PROBABLY NOT AN APPROVED METHOD OF DEALING WITH UNKNOWN DOGS!!But it works for dad everytime any stray dog tries to mess with us.
I thought I should update everyone...
After talking to the Beech Grove parks department back and forth since this happened I finally got an answer today on what was going to be done. NOTHING! I talked a guy named Andy and he said he was going to call the woman and give her a warning. He also said he was going to tell her to take her dog to obedience school. Which will do absolutely nothing for his aggression. So be careful Beech Grove dog park people. Please, the dogs name is Ezra and he is registered as an akita/labrador mix. He is big and fluffy with a tan coat. Be careful because it only takes a second and since the pass isn't being revoked I'm sure they will continue to go.
