Long hair cat "issues"

Pearle on Grooming - Mon, June 11 2007

This is an embarrassing topic for me but Mommy insists I post this. (*tail held high*) Sometimes when I poopy it doesn't all neatly fall into the litter, it "hangs on" to my fur. Most of the time mom catches me and can get it off with a gentle tug of paper towel. BUT sometimes that won't do and she CUTS it off!!! Not a lot, but is there any other way?? She makes my sister hold me still and mom snips. Is this a long haired cat problem? I'm their first one.

Actually it's not just cats that have this problem. Mom was threatening to cut all my hair back there due to dingleberries. She said that she did trim my cat sister's booty just around that area to help with the problem. It's probably better to cut all that hair off at once rather than piece by piece.

My aunt has 2 long-haired cats and she keeps the hair around their butts and on the back of their legs clipped short. You might want to try this, it seems to help them.

Thanks, I don't want my mom to cut my fur, but she seems to think this would be a good idea! Come to think of it, my bro Kirby has has this problem, too (a fluffy corgi with a pompom butt)! Mom has had to snip his fur a few times. Blitzen, you're right. It would look better if my butt fur was all EVEN!

why don't you have your mom call a groomer and just have them trim your butt? maybe doing that every month or so will keep the "clingers" away!! ;o)

My sister Fluffy has long hair too. Mom takes her to the groomer and they shave her butt. I dont think she minds, it's better than watching Fluff trying to clean it herself, or my mom having to touch poo.

One of my little brothers is a long-haired cat, he gets the same problem sometimes and it grosses me out. My mom keeps the hair on his bottom cut shorter, but in the summer time she takes him to the groomer to get a lion cut. I think he looks stupid with a shaved body and a mane, and the tail is shaved except a little ball is left on the end of the tail, but he walks around like the king of the house with this hair-cut. At least he doesn't smell like poop.

Ya...I had quite the dingleberry this morning, 2 actually. Mommy snipped them off and I'm acutally learning that if I cooperate, it's not so bad! I don't know about the lion cut thing....my family loves my fur, it's like a cotton/silk blend. I don't smell like poop, anyway...I'm a girl!

Yeah, I tell you, that's a problem for me too. My mommy keeps my butt trimmed and it really helps!
