That seems pretty frustrating. Why would allow people to go to all the trouble to transport her, and then decide she's too shy and put her to sleep? They shouldn't have accepted her if they weren't going to give her a chance. If you can foster her, I would try to get her back and work with local rescues. I know there are those that will help you out if you agree to foster.
The rescues don't even want this dog. There is a mother dog and her puppy going on the transport from this shelter to a rescue. Stupid me just wanted to see what other dogs were at this shelter. They didn't have much info on this dog so I asked. Big mistake! I'm just wondering if there is anyway I can get her out of there and keep her until a rescue can take her or am I just dreaming? The lady at the shelter also told me they could add her to the transport going to Indy for me. You can tell I'm really stressed about this.
If you could foster her, maybe ARPO or Wags N Strays would let you adopt her out through their rescue. I'm not sure, but if you're willing to foster, there has to be a rescue willing to work with you to place her in a home. Take a deep breath. We'll figure something out! I was this same way when I saw Minnie at HSI. She had been there two months, and I just felt horrible for her. She's here permanently now!
This is one of the things Nathan Winograd discussed at his No Kill seminar last weekend. Shy dogs are at a huge disadvantage at a conventional shelter. They should be fostering this dog out so she isn't so scared. If you could foster her, I would be happy to help you if she turns out to have some training issues. Just PM me. Also, if you foster her, send me a message and I'll let you know about any foster events I attend with my foster.
Thank you. I just sent an email for the shelter to get me an application. It’s a small shelter with only 2 volunteers. I’ll be in touch after I get her and know more about her personality.
She's adorable and I'm sure we could probably take her in at Wags. Unfortunately, the founders are in Florida on vacation this week so I can't speak for them. I say get her and we'll figure out something. Most rescues will agree to take her in if you will foster since that takes a huge burden off of them. Let me know if I can help. I love working with shy dogs(Sweetie is coming along but I was disappointed in her during our trip to Petsmart this weekend).
Thank you. It might be to late. While I was at work the volunteer emailed me to let me know that the Vet was there putting down dogs and gave me the number to call the director. I didn't get the notice until about an hour ago when I got home. I've just been sitting here staring at the screen wondering what I could have done. I'm going to call the # she gave me tomorrow. I still have a little bit of hope.
Oh why oh why did I click on that picture? she's so cute...and definitely scared. But that's how our Daisy was when we got her...i had to carry her everywhere for the first 2 days. She's fine now, tho...sometimes it takes time to acclimate them to a real life, but they will. Her breed mix is very intelligent, too. I'd think she has Australian Shepherd in her, and spaniel, both of which are smart and easily trained, though somewhat high-strung at times.
I love what Mama Mutt said about "welcome to the bleeding hearts club", tho.....how true for all of us! maybe we should all open an IP shelter hahaaha
