I've posted about transporting a few times on this site and a lot of people have expressed interest.
The picture on my home page is one of the four beagles that I transported last weekend. This sweet girl was going into labor during the transport; she had been dumped days before at the shelter in KY! I couldn't believe that! A shelter is no place to have babies, so transporting her to a rescue in WI as quickly as possibile was the only thing to do. She made it safely to the rescue in WI Sat night and very early Sunday morning they had to do an emergency C-Section. She had SEVEN puppies (she still looked like a puppy herself). Sadly one puppy died before delivery and another one died shortly thereafter.
I can not begin to imagine what could have happened had this sweet girl not made her way to the rescue where she received the medical attention she needed.
Ginger and her five puppies are now in a foster home and after the puppies have been weaned they will all be adopted out to loving families.
The people who work so hard to make this type of rescue happen are amazing. There is the guy in the shelter in KY calling rescues to get them to take the dogs (so they don't have to die), the woman who coordinates the rescue (extremely complicated), and the rescues who are willing to take the dogs in and help them on to new lives.
Drivers are desparately needed this weekend for another transport. They are trying to move 8 dogs from KY to rescues north of Indianapolis. Because there are 8 dogs they need two drivers on the early legs. The trip starts at 7:00 AM Saturday in Shelbyville KY. Each leg of the trip is 1 to 1 1/2 hours. This means you will pick-up the dogs at a designated spot, drive for an hour and hand them off to the next driver.
The run sheet is very long so have not posted it here. PLEASE send me a message if you can help and I will
put you in touch with the coordinator.
I only had this sweet girl and her traveling companions with me for about an hour and a half on Saturday but I really fell in love with her. Transporting has been an incredible experience.
