Chompy McChomperson & Co.

NosyRosie on Health - Wed, April 30 2008

It is with mixed blessings that I announce that Freckles's alter ego is back in action. (Everyone knows I love my sleep) Chompy McChomperson is her 5am persona. It comes out around mealtimes and it's not as irritating at 7pm as it is at 5am. She licks her chops and "bites air" and likes to do it in your ear or as close to your head as possible. If the chomps get ignored, things progress to the Silent Whine. The volume of the silent whine advances to a full blown whine until the Basset bark emerges. Then you know it's time to wake up and appease the Hound. So, in other words, Freckles's Internal Clock is no longer on Snooze!

With the cranky factor already in place, Brian and I were then greeted with three small Doxie sized puke spots in our bed this morning. He found a spot in the laundry room yesterday that was filled with pre-chewed carrots. And I've just witnessed Maggie working up a small foamy pile on our carpet. I know she's got a sick tummy because she's getting into the bowl after Freckles eats and eating her leftovers. I also know that my Dad feels bad for her not getting as much attention and gives her forbidden treats. Should I call the vet or just let her belly rest? I know they'll recommend she come in and I'll walk out of there with a few hundred dollars less in my bank account and sucralfate and metronidazole. I've also got to look up what foods she can have if she can't have her dog food...darn Liver Shunt restricts her protein intake.

Again thanks for letting me vent.

Glad to know Chompy is back in action....sorry to hear you don't get to sleep in anymore. As for Marge in Charge, if you know the meds will make her feel better, than I'd take her in. But if you also know that restricting her food intake will help her get over this episode of upset tummy, than its much cheaper to do that.(REALLY helpful advice, I'm know.lol)

I forgot to add, I get my revenge on the dogs when they wake me at 4 am on the weekends by waking them up anytime they kinda dose off during the day. Spiteful I know, but it make me feel a little better.lol

Oooh, that is a good one. I do it too. I just can't resist bugging them because they look so cute cuddled up and sleeping!

Glad to hear that Freckles is feeling better, but as you say....gotta take the good with the bad. When Rescue had pneumonia last year, I was so worried and he was so cuddley and sweet....once he got to feeling better he's his old chew 'em up, barky, annoying lovable self again....sigh! (Good thing he's cute!)

I would let Maggie's belly rest. You are smart enough to realize when she actually needs vet attention. She probably just needs a break from food. Or at least give her very bland food at dinner(rice). She can take some Pepcid for her tummy. I'm glad Freckles is feeling better. I've done the waking them up when they're sleeping thing too. Especially if they've been up acting obnoxious all night:-)

Not you too, Maggie!! The BFFs are dropping like flies!! Well, I'm sorry your tummy is rumbly, really I am. I'd stay away from eating after your sister. All of that bassett slobber can't be good.... remember when I chewed my mom's retainer? Ya, kind of right up there with germs. Ew. Do you like Tums? Maybe you can try one of those... Keep me informed, feel better BFF!

You have me laughing with the Chompy part. The worst I have to suffer through is banging cabinets because they have learned how to get them to make noise. Of and of course the constant kneading.

Chompy McChomperson!! I love it!! That's hilarious! I'm so glad she is feeling better. Beverly is my morning pup. Minnie would be happy to sleep until noon, I think! She barely opens her eyes in the morning, stretches and makes little grunting noises. It's like it's all she can do to pull herself out of bed!

I feel for ya with the 5am thing. Francie woke me up at 4am this morning and by the time I got back to sleep around 5:30, both she and Deuce were right there in my face wanting to go out.
